I strongly agree with asjdsm. We need to be optimistic and not pessimistic. The arrival of a new competitive brand will only result in good competition between the manufacturers and that will be subsequently beneficial for the consumer. Take the example of the Cellular companies. When there used to be Instaphone and Mobilink. Does anyone remember what used to be the tarriff in those days for making or taking a call. We used to pay roaming charges just to go from one city to another. And now.... Its a Sunday bazaar of cellular phone networks and who is the winner? The consumer!

As far as the local mechs losing their jobs is concerned, they are not going to lose their jobs. As asjdsm said, there are millions of the old technology bikes on the road and they will stay there for another 20 years. Yamaha wont sell 20 million bikes in the first month. Neither they are going to introduce an offer where you could give them your old bike and get a brand new Efi Yamaha Bike. So there will be plenty of time for the mechs to update themselves. Ravi-Piaggio and Honda came up with the Euro II technology and we find many mechs who can deal with that. They will also learn to deal with the Efi system. There is no need to panic!

its difficult to understand what u really mean ?
regarding the bike price what "real data" u have to substantiate ur statement ? and since when have the customers got any thing in Pakistan for less price.. u see Honda cd 70 price is 65k and still people are paying and honda is getting profit.. so muft ma koi chz nai milthi.. and never heard of people giving 55 k for honda cd 70 and saying the dealer that earlier it was 55 k so i will pay that price not new ..

u also mentioned yamaha will make people unemployed ?
explain it how it will make people unemployed also how much people will be unemployed ?

as far as i see.. yamaha is bringing investment it will introduce new products for it it will need new people at industry level.marketing level. distribution level,services level.. so it is providing more jobs .. it is not shutting down honda business . .. it is not shutting down chondas.. its is doing its business .. looking for its place.. endeavouring competition.. if its quality enables it to reach such a high position where honda and chondas will vanish from the market then then obviously customers will be at the winning side not honda or chonda ltds...

also the already existing mechanics are for providing the services for already sold products.. available in the market .. they are not providing services for products that are not launched.. so they will remain as long as those products remain in the market.. only the growth level of new "ustads" will have a bit slow "growth"...

and above all new technology always brings some downsides.. first there was great resistance to qingqi from tangawalas they also shouted like the local industry here is shouting in this case.. also shouting were the suzuki walas..

if u go even back in history there were buses now that place is gradually replaced by mini buses (also called haies,wagons,etc.. ya local alfaz hain...) in the end who is the winner ? customer obviously ..

also yamaha is not bringing jet engine into bike . it will be more or less the same as others with few goodies.. and so desi mechanics will gradually catch up with it.. as they don't want to lose customers .. if a mechanic is ready to lose customers and is not ready to update his knowledge then let him loose his business and let him become unemployed.. so who is the winner ? customer

how will yamaha create a mess ?
by offering new tech ? by introducing more know how ? by providing more options ? by competition with honda/chondaz ? this saying of urs is hillarious.

Yamaha has said it will bring in 150 million dollars in 10 years, and employment of 5 thousand people. This means that the company will not give any taxes of any form whatsoever for the next 10 years. The population talks about selfish politician who want everything their way, you my friend are nothing less, and dont really care about the rest of the people but variety in the motorcycles industry. second of all yamaha will not sell their motorcycles in Pakistan for atleast 3 years, for teh first three years they will export their motorcycles into neighboring countries like Uzbekistan, and etc..

Pakistan is poverty stricken, almost 60% of the people are unemployed, and if you come to think of the proactive approach all the rest of the companies will do, employment will be cut, as for the vendors, and normal star shops. IF yamaha comes in, Honda will do the same thing, bring in their own people, own manafacturing plant, and all profits will go back to Japan being a MNC. and so will all the Japanese assemblers. Our country does not care about the future, and hence it is like this since the past 65 years. the want short term gain and dont care about long term approaches.

Do you think in such hard times, where the world is going into another recession, anyone will be able to buy Japanese motorcycles? our currency has depreciated more then 60% the last year, the only reason for japanese bikes being more expensive from the rest is because the currency depression, and because DYL and Atlas Honda are the only people paying taxes to the Government. Do you really think all these low assemblers like unique or anyone pay taxes? Unique had been caught by the customs and had to pay 300 million rs underway, to get its name out. in such hard times think from the countries perspective, not your own sir, thats how we'll move forward as a nation.

So what you are saying is that since we are 50 years behind time, we need to stay that way and not even welcome anything that can reduce the distance of time even by a month? The development comes at a price. The "Developed" countries paid the price. We are not ready? Coz we wanna stay that way? Brother if Yamaha comes, their bikes will be for more than 100K. Not everyone will be able to buy those. Only enthusiasts will. Which leaves the rest of about 90% people who have shortage of money at ALL times. They will keep buying the local brands. to bring investement into an one has to offer incentives,, one cannot just suck opnes blood right fom day first,, and if u r bringing such an investement to pakistan a country infested with so many problems and unstable politics u have to accept a bit higher incentive,, look at the situation of karachi,, its the biggest economic city of pakistan,, and what r its situation?

also apart from the questions that i have raised earlier r not answerd and here is one more ahgain from ur own statements,,

big question u seem to raise in almost every post but cant seem to justify it..
the only way i see some companies (if any) backpacking is through better quality,services and tough competition being given by yamaha or for that instance any other local company (that will eventually survive/try to survive)....

second those companies who are producing 500-600 bikes are known for other products and have tried their luck in this industry .. they r not serious .. they are just assemblers.. for instance look at the example of Treat motorcycles.. treat is a company that is famous for shaving blades .. search the forum for treat motorcycle.. there is a thread about it.. and u will see my reply there.. .. maza banaya ha motorcycle industry ko.. every tom ,dick and harry seems to be making a new bike of its own...

The motorcycle will have EFI engine, automatic transmission, water cool & environment friendly exhaust system, meeting European standards, in this plant. This will not only meet the demand of Pakistani market but will also enable them to export their models to various Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

Mandviwalla said that keeping in view the current fuel and energy situation in Pakistan, Yamaha will produce state of the art motorcycles with less fuel consumption of Rs10 per 30min drive which covers a distance of 40-50km.

Yamaha Executive Officer Sumioka Ryouichi that the investment in Pakistan will create 45,000 jobs and with the transfer of technology in manufacturing of motorcycle, vendor skill capability and capacity will also be developed with exclusive training institutes being run by the company.

Recognizing that the existing assemblers/manufacturers of vehicles have over the years developed many parts and components locally and the factor that auto industry is yet heavily import dependent for various materials and components, with marginal exports, an import duty exemption of 5 years will support to increase the company’s marginal profits in some extend till 2020, said by Mr. Sumioka Ryouichi.

There is no need to argue. Its obvious that in the end the local consumer like us will get the maximum benefits on following grounds.

1) 45k jobs.
2)as stated above latest fuel efficient and cheapest to drive motorcycles (no need to buy the local made tin dabba and cheapo cd-70 china copies).

Regarding unemployment and 5 years import duty exemption point is useless. Govt. has given local assemblers/importers their best chance to prove themselves (by almost 200% overhead on import of used motorcycles and other privileges to local assemblers) and if they had the potential they could introduce some new technology and innovation, but they have totally failed.
Instead what we get from them is Treet 70cc and Ghonghat 70cc.

The thing is that local manufacturers (cottage industry) who have enjoyed their monopoly for a long time and have earned a lot and also looted us by providing low quality products are afraid that they will loose their income. They have failed in all manners.

Believe you me this plant should be set as as soon as possible. It will be the most beneficial for almost 95% of the nation and the remaining 5% are those who are related in some way to motorcycle cottage industry in Pakistan.

It seems this automatic transmission is for the scooter versions that are very fuel efficient and have all other best features.
Possible models could be as in the pics below or some other
five ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines) version.

If they are able to set plant in spite of all the hurdles and negative environment, they will definitely made many other models besides these fuel efficient scooters/mopeds versions.
Its my wish that they also made a dual sports at reasonable price as it suits my height.
