We wish all the best for the Sri Lankan Car Maker, Micro. The more our region develops the better it will be for all of us. Look at Western Europe, it is prosperous since all the countries there are at par with each other, in terms of educations, technological achievements, idnustrial mileStones, with some leading nations such as Germany, Britain, France and Italy, but all of them are highly developed and in turn benefit eachother. Hopefully, all of our South Asian regions develops, hopefully other countries like Nepal and Bangladesh also start making cars, truck, fans, lights, electronic equipment etc.

MICRO TREND is not an originally designed Sri Lankan car.
Only the MICRO car - which is supposed to be available in Pakistan for Rs. 100,000 is an originally designed Sri Lankan car.
MICRO TREND is a Chinese car HAFEI LOBO, designed by Pininfarina, and it is only being assembled in Sri Lanka with a new name.
THE LAUNCH OF HAFEI LOBO:
At the 2002 Beijing Motor Show Harbin Hafei Motor Co. Ltd. introduced the Lobo (treasure on the road) which went into production in November. This Pininfarina designed minicar hails a new era in the history of Hafei.

HAFEI LOBO, a Chinese car, is being assembled in Sri Lanka under the badge of MICRO TREND, just like so many foreign cars are assembled in Pakistan. Not a big deal.
However the smaller MICRO car is something that can be called a true and original Sri Lankan product.

That makes more sense now. Thanks for the valuable update. The China factor in Auto world is not a bad thing afterall, as they are assisting any country who is willing to work on a car project of their own, unlike the Euros, Yanks, Japs and Koreans, which have so far, restricted all the car making knowledge mainly to themselves. Chinese also benefit, by having their brands established in other countries, who cares if its under a different Localized Name. Plus Chinese are alot forth comming to helpout other third world countries in making the products they are also acquiring the skills in.

I spent a whole week in Columbo/Kandy in Sri Lanka in 2003 and never saw a single 'Micro car'!!.It is a beautiful country and a must see for people in South Asia.Such natural beauty so close and except for indians, not many other south asians seem to be traveling there.Pity.

Sri Lanks is indeed a beautiful island nation. The main reason would be due to rebellion or civil war of some sort going on there, thats probably why I think many people do not go there. But same can be said of other places, where tourists flock by millions, like Israel, which is always in state of war, LoL, but attracts alot of Western tourists. Another reason might be distance, its much closer to India, and also depends on India for logistical support, for Imports, Exports via Indian shipping vessels, etc. Much like Nepal, which is landlocked but depends highly on India for its survival and link to the modern world also. Sri Lankans can definately be admired for their highest Literacy Rate in South Asia, currently at 85% or even higher. That is amazing and worth emulating.

Humy Bhai, I don't think nick is racist, he is just admiring Sri Lanka, just like you and I. I admire them for their Highest Literacy rate in South Asia and the one of the highest in the World, and I think you also admire Sri Lanka....for their MODELS. :)... Its all good now, bro.
