What is the basis of this rule? Pretty much any 250cc+ bike can easily maintain 120km/hr speed without issue. Inazuma can maintain it all day long without issue as well as R25 (if and when it is introduced in coming months).

Do they just want to discourage bike riding on the motorway or is there some valid concern behind this NHM&P fatwa?

Sorry and I am sure all bikers will hate me. But I think they are rightly discouraged. It is not just a question of maintaining 120 KM / hr as one of the members wrote above. Even there are some impatient cars and buses seen overtaking from wrong lane on motorway. Imagine what will happen if bikes were allowed too.

I have not yet ever seen a bike on motorway.

^ so it depends person to person. Not all bikers, car drivers and bus drivers do these things! So the problem lies not with the vehicle but the driver! So there is no problem on having motorcycles on the motorway as long as all the people who are travelling on motorway (bikers, car and bus drivers etc.) follow the rules!

Allowing bikers on motorway would be the moat foolish decision and a disaster...how they drive, everybody knows...accidents n mortality rate will immensely increase for sure ...

I think youre talking about the bikers on the local roads with their shee gee 125 ! On motorway there are going to be above 500 cc bikes! But in the end it depends on the rider not the machine

agr koi recently Motorway pe safar karne ja raha ho apni personal car pe to kindly ask the starting Toll Plaza guys about this question and post the answer here.

I talked to a Motorway Police official a few months back. He told me that bikes are no longer allowed on motorway since some "Ameer baap k bachay like to put other's life in danger". The only way is to get a special permission. They ask you to sign an affidavit which puts the rider totally responsible in case some mishap happens (even if it is not his fault). This information might not be right but that's what I was told.

Yeah mistake of one person causes a bad name for all bikers. Everyone should drive in a safe manner!

its better u call motorway helpline number. its 130 or 180 u can dial it directly fro mobile.

saadabdulrahim@ is right. 500cc and plus were allowed for some duration...but due to safety issues the motorway police decided to put the ban back earlier last year. Once I was driving back from Lahore and was near Chakri, I was over speeding (and I am not proud of that at all)...must be around 150-160 and I saw a couple of bikers in my rear view mirror and in matter of seconds they zoomed past me. The scariest part was that I was in the overtaking lane and some of the bikers overtook me - the only space they had was between my car and the center divider. I think some of them were speeding like 200+.

It's already a nightmare driving on Motorway compared to 10 years ago, no one follow any rules anymore and motorway police don't give a damn about anything except speeding. Imagine you going at 120 and suddenly a bike doing 70/80 just suddenly change lane and end up right in front of you, imagine a bike cut in front of you and then apply brakes and slow down. Imagine yourself stuck behind few bikes all trying to overtake each other at 60/70/80 KM/H.

I think the 500cc rule is good.

I would like them to put a ban on rickshaws on certain roads in the cities too. They travel at 30/40/50KM/H and often block the whole 3 lane road while overtaking each other slowing down the flow of the traffic.
