I own the 98 model since around 2000.
In all these years NEVER had to do any engine work (excluding regular maintenance). And it still does not consume oil and starts on first turn of the ignition. Even though it is EFI it does not have a lot of sensors e.g. it does not have an oxygen sensor. I haven't actually measured my fuel economy but in city it gives approx 10-11 km per litre and 14+ on highway (Auto tranny, AC is always on).
Had to do suspension work two times I think. Whenever my friends sit in my car they tell me about how smooth the car is and how they dont feel any bumps.
But if you are looking to buy one right now you will mostly find abused cars. Most people buy this model for modifications. Even if it has not been modified it will be difficult to find one with stock engine in good condition.
The ideal with good engine, working electronics and wires not messed with and good body will cost you a lot.
