check the body structure everywhere for repair/damage - open and close the doors, test drive the car and try to nagivate slowly on uneven road - like climbing a driveway, if the body creaks or you hear odd sounds, then most probably the car is a gone case.
Checking the engine is easy. it should start sweetly, run like factory spec meaning, no direct running radiator fan, it should be getting fully warmed up (half gauge) - and have no issues pulling the car and should not be making odd noises or blowing smoke or leaking any oil from anywhere.
