Thank you for leading me here.
Honda Accord CF3 2002 (1.8 liter) Karachi
Bought it around a month ago. The seller said a tranmission connecter wire is loose which may cause D blink if driven on pot holes. Shouldn't have blieved him. Got connector fixed but the tranmission would give storng jerks and would go in to D Blink. Visited an auto tranmission shop who immediately diagnosed the proble as 'Overhaul zaroori hai warna baki transmission bhi khatam ho jayay gi'. Did overhaul and changed valve body and gear oil. Problem returned next day. The car would drive like a dream, initially, but would give jerks few minutes in to drive (speically during day time) and would after few violent jerks would land in to D blink with third gear only.
Later on, found that the same car was discussed on PW in 2017 with that issue then as well. Seems like all owners since then couldn't correct the problem. What I learned from those posts is:
- The car overheated on highway due to fan failure, and D blink issue came first time after that.
- Car has been scanned several times, but it works well if engine is cold.
My observations:
- Car is on tap water.
- Car runs well but engine feels hot.
- Car temp needle jumps to max at time but falls down within a minute (engine temperate seems same).
- Only once I noted this that car was doing 40Km/H and speed needle dropped to zero and back to 40.
- Car would drive fine initially. Then if traffic is observed, then one will notice that gears are taking longer to shift. Then 2nd gear would stick till 4K RMP and shift with big jerk to third where it will stay with a D blink.
- On return of D blink after so called tranmission overhaul, I returned to Transmission shop with car running for 20K on D blink - evenining time, the guy there hooked up scanner, errased the codes, restarted the car (D blink goes away on restart), drove the car for almost an hour but no tranmission issues were noted. D blink came back next day during day time. Next day, went to his rcommended electrician. He performed some test, fiddled with solenoids and switches, and said car is ok electrically.
Tranmission guy says tranmission is ok. Electrician says wires are ok. Error Code is only of improper shifting (dont recall the number).
Gave the car to my mechanic. He drove it for two days but no issues. Today, I drove the car for over an hour but the car didn't do any trouble (with AC and then without AC, fast and slow as well). Then I put the shifter in '1' position, moved the car forward. It moved. Then put the shifter in '2' position, but the car wouldn't move. Put the shifter at D3, car moved and then at D4, but the D blink immediately returned. Took it straight to mechanic who Hooked up the scanner and we same old codes (I wish I had the error codes written - would update here once I get them.)
Where we stand now: Mechanic is Arrangining an ABS unit on loan to test if ABS is causing this issue. Only other option that seems feasible now is to arrange a replacement assembly. Otherwise, we are also contempelating which river should we use to drown the car so that the chain of suffering ends here.
