ill define ported enclosures in the easiest way possible

The basics of ported enclosures which i learnt from my own experience

1- if a box is tuned to 32hz , it will generally be peaking 6 to 8hz above tuning frequency that is 37-42hz range depending upon port area and cabin gain

e.g mehran has extreme gains in 45 to 50hz range, i-e a box tuned to 38hz can probably gain arnd 6db boost just due to nature of box and cabin gained combined at peak frequency

2- Now coming to port area, the basics are

the lesser the port area , the more range enclosure will have, will play flat , smooth. Uniform excursion at the cost of extreme spl

the more the port area, the faster the subwoofer will go out of balance below tuning, will b almost still playing at tuning frequency, will have alot of over power margin above tuning and at peak frequency due high excursion cooling it down

sound will b peaky and rough but loud

9-16sq inches is advisable for slot port, i prefer to keep 14sq inches per net cuft as its a decent compromise between extreme spl and quality

let me translate it. u tune a box at 32 hz, it will peak around 38-42 hz. meaning the max output will be at around 38-42hz. every car boosts certain frequencies e.g. mehran boosts 40-45hz so that adds to the boxes' gain...

changing port area changes the response of the box. if the port area is small, the enclosure behaves more like a sealed box and the response becomes better. it also means that the sub will have a flat response and it will play a wider range of frequencies in a better way. a larger port are will play a smaller range of frequencies.

Ok so if you want a boost at say 40hz frequencies, you would tune a box at 34-35 hz for a car, since the boosted frequency is usually higher than the enclosure's tunning frequency?

Isnt there any sure shot method to make an enclosure, which would be efficient enough to boost exactly the same frequencies at which it is tuned.

I dont know if precision is needed in SPL systems like it is needed in SQ, but say i want a boost at 40Hz, and the enclosure i designed gives me a boost at 45Hz ( since the boosted frequency is usually higher than the tunning ), would that affect the sound in any way?

My point is that, everything depends on how the enclosure behaves inside the cabin of the car, there isnt any certain way to measure its purticular boosted frequency.

Or say 40-45hz wont make an audible difference?

just like sq systems, measuring the max cabin gain of car is also no joke, its the reason why car audio competitions are held

not necessarily, car has gain for every frequency, its just not that considerable compared to its peak resonant frequency

if u want to check ur cars peak follow this

load sine waves on a cd- that is stepwise 28-50hz

configure ur eq to be flat

and check which frequency gives ur ears a beating :P, quite hard btw everything sounds similar but just for fun try it on ur sealed box

say it is 42hz

then make a tuned box, good step is to tune it to 38hz

play 42hz again, now add polyfill to it to lower the tuning a bit or place a port blocker to drop tuning and test again

watever hits the most, is ur magic tuning . Sit back and let it pound lol

Running two pairs of speakers require four channel amp..... Don`t run both the pairs on two channel amplifier (usually done by shopkeeper)..... For the amplifier, i suggest do a market survey and see what you can get in this range..... Market survey is a must ..... Look for branded amplifiers like, pioneer, kenwood, alpine, soundstream, JBL, etc...... Compare the RMS power of your speakers to the amplifier (The more powerful the amp, the better it is).....

Alright i did the market survey....Ive got the front speakers with Rms 60 and rear ones with Rms 80...since u told me to go with the matching Rms therefore the best Amp that i came across was of BM Audio Labs' JX4988Z....it gives 75*4 Rms....so should i go for it?or do you have any other suggestion?...Kindly confirm me its Price,the shopkeeper has quoted me 11k for it...Thanking in anticipation.

dont get BM amp rather look for pioneer amps. i think 6500F model is around 8k. would be better than this BM Audio

I saw that too,but it had the Rms of 60*4...should i still go for it?
