I think every tyre manufacturer has a range of tyre models, so to speak, so we canāt generalise that a particular brand is overhyped. There are economy models, performance models and all season models for example. No manufacturer, be it Japanese, American, German or French will have all āmodelsā good in all aspects. So expectations should be managed accordingly.
Same goes for Continental. There may be a market push because of trade margins but that doesnāt mean their different models donāt perform as advertised. There is praise for their UC, MC series mostly because these are available here. They are grippy as well as quiet compared to Generals mounted from factory so people tend to like them. I got CC6 because my goal was comfort and economy and they are serving me well for this purpose. Grip isnāt too bad either but my requirement is pretty simple. They are mounted on a subcompact family car which does school runs and other errands. I have no intentions of testing their limits on wet surfaces, for example, and I feel they work well enough to cover us during normal city driving which is what is expected of them.
Iāve also used Yokohama Advan dBs in the same vehicle and they may have been marginally more quiet and soft vs these, but they became damage prone after 30k km so longevity was not that good. CC6s are going well from that perspective. 38k km done but still going strong. Anyway, experiences vary so someone else may have a different opinion.
