Hi sorry for late reply. Was away from forums for a long time. Having checked with few other people who got the CVT fluid changed from dealerships, I tried Toyota Rawal. I asked if they will open pan or just drain nut, they replied depend on the condition of the fluid. It was my second replacement, they did not open the pan and just drained and refilled with a pump.

Yes there are various stages involved, opening the pan and replacing, cleaning the filter is usually done when required, otherwise drain and refill works.

They had a measuring bottle mounted on the pump, put the new fluid into it, pumped it up, then added more fluid till it came started dripping.

The fluid was changed on Feb 21, 2022 at 55,000 Kms, now the mileage is 68,000 kms and no issues so far.

Might seem dumb but @haseeb.basharat also said the same. My question is have you noticed the radiator fan staying on longer with 0w-20? Since Im unable to understand why thinner oil is giving less average. @xulfiqar also plan on shifting to taglon xe 10w-40 for my 2010 xli (currently using total 10w-40) my guess is these taglon oils are better compared to local options

Choose what's recommended in your owner's manual. IMC made your car, not me or people on pakwheels. Simple is that.
People have covered well over 500k kms now on thick oils on grande without overhauls or oil reductions.

Salam.. Toyota dealership poured sae5w50 taglon fully synthetic in grande on first oil change.. Should I stick to this on my 2nd oil change or I should change to 5w30??

5w30.

Globally and in Japan too mostly 0w20 is used.

But a thicker oil like 5w30 is also fine and is used in some countries including Pakistan.

50 weight used to be used in 70s to 90s. Though it might not harm your engine immediately but it’s freaking thick and flows way too slow.
You gotta have some strange infatuation with THICK oils to go 50..

Open your owner's manual, see the recommendation yourself.
Your car was made by IMC, and sold by IMC. Keep on using the oil what IMC has recommended to dealership.

Car purchased from IMC, but oil should be Japan recommended, lol. Fyi: engine is assembled in Pak.
175k kms driven on 5w50. My friend is at 300k kms.
We are still looking forward to the engine harm.

No sir. The main parts like engine, transmission are not even touched by IMC. I wish Pak had gotten so advanced that we started making such robust car engines like the corollas have.

And these cars will likely work even if you throw sand in them.

Why stick to generations old ultra thick oils like w50 when so much better is now available and actually used throughout the world? Locally too, been using 0w20 and 5w30 with great results.

Local dealers used to use thick 50 oils, but now even local Honda n Toyota dealers officially put 20 and 30 grade oils. Just ask Yaris, Civic, Corolla owners.

Grade 50 might not harm your engine immediately like I said, but has more chances of harm as it flows very slow.

why take the risk.

I think there is something else going on, 0w-20 oil is better for perfect conditions. Like good weather and driving at 60-70 speed on roads without any rush. But when one gets stuck in traffic the 0w-20 oil causes to radiator fan to kick in earlier putting stress on the alternator, which causes the average to drop so IMC launched the 5w-50 oil to be light weight upon startup but have good strength when temps are high

Doesn’t work like that, all modern full synthetic oils are made as per some standard like API SN, some have manufacturer specs like dexos etc.

There’s a thing called HTHS which tells how much an oil would shear under high temperatures. They all have a certain limit and high ambient / atmosphere temperature doesn’t mean a thin oil like w20 is not going to perform. 0w20 is used in all temperature ranges. HTHS limit means high temps won’t make it go bad.

However, it is understandable that some people would prefer thicker oils and care more about HTHS, as they believe 20 is thin.. They can go thicker and have a higher HTHS with 5w30 oils. If one is even bigger fan of thick then w40 will also do.

Do keep in mind oil temperature in a modern car engine is controlled, no matter if outside temperature is 20c or 55c. No matter you’re driving in Alaska or Mars Temperature inside car engine is A LOT higher when operating …And it stays controlled via the cooling system.

1. All including me who poured 5w30 initially faced bad fuel economy of 13-14km/l on motorway. On the other hand it's 16-17km/l on 120km/h with 5w50, and that's the case for all grande.

2. I am sticking to the owners manual supplied with the car instead of what's written over the internet.
   Latest grande X clearly got 5w50 recommendation in the manual.

3. I use mobil 1 5w50 which is latest generation. Who told you that 5w50 is old school? 5w50 oils are always fully synthetic and they're highest in terms of price. It's easy to make 5w30 when compared with the procedure involved in making of 5w50.

No point of argument here, just open the manual and pour what's recommended. It's an IMC product and not a JDM.

The problem with a 5w50 oil is that it has a 45 point spread, to make this happen two methods are used, one is to take a base 5w grp 3 oil and add a metric ton of additives to make it work like a w50 too. Or formulate it fully from a grp 5 pao base stock, these oils are not economical, cost about more than 100 usd/gallon.

I can assure you that IMC doesnt have the pao product but some cheapo grp2 and 3 mixture because there is no regulation in Pakistan.

The grp2/3 mix will cause oil to slow down and pump slowly when the heat activated poly chains are intact, this oil also breaks down very quick and renders itself useless.

So best to run what is globally proven, Pakistan is still on planet earth.

100%. A 5W-50 without VII masala and an actual PAO base is not cheap. Motul's about Rs. 5k a liter. Nobody in their right mind is spending Rs. 20,000 on an oil change for a Corolla.

@xulfiqar sir I do agree with what you say but you are forgetting it is blended by idemitsu so it's not made locally rather blended locally
