This was foolish.
People who are commending your act and saying it's 'bahaduri' and carry a gun etc are not thinking much.
You have to understand that just like in life where you get all kinds of people, in Pakistan you can get all types of criminals with a gun to ask you money, mobile phones, cars etc. Which type of person you will encounter, well that's your luck.
If that criminal happens to be a novice, who is carrying the gun just to make some quick bucks, well then you may get away with some bravery attempt. But if he happens to be a professional criminal with some murders in the past, he won't even hesitate to fire all the bullets in your chest, face, torso, the moment you try to act clever. You cannot know which criminal you get and hence you are taking on a stupid gamble on your life (in exchange of some money) everytime you are facing a gun.
It is also foolish to carry a gun yourself, as it has the potential to give a false sense of security. Whether you carry a gun or not, you have the same level of risk of being shot by the criminal you encounter, if he ask money/cellphone/car from you and you attempt to be funny.
The gun will give you a chance for redemption... i.e. you may retaliate (a-la Raymond Davis style) and kill or injure the criminals during or after they made the robbery, but have you even considered the repurcussions that this might have?
If you shoot at the criminal, and he gets killed, you may have a lengthy court proceedings awaiting your life (and remember in Pakistani courts, only money talks, there's not much justice). You have the potential to become the biggest enemy of the family, brothers, and relatives of the person whom you killed and hence you (and your family) may face retaliation in the worst form from them even if you get away with POlice and courts. Finally, in Islam murder would be unjustified as you took away that person life who plundered you (but not killed you). Hence punishment of a murderer may be awaiting in the hereafter.
If that person is injured from your shot, well you will still face police, courts and also retaliation from not just his family members, but also himself and his gang, once he recovers and get away with police. This may haunt you for the rest of your life.
Choice is yours. You may just choose to give happily whatever that criminal asks you to give (money, mobile phones, cars) and come home to thank God not just that you are alive, but on that too that you were the owner of that (money, cellphone, car) in the first place for the time they were with you. Afterall, everything we have is temporary, it was just a matter how long that money, cellphone, car was to remain with us. So it's better to just forget everything that happened with you, thank the blessings you have, and move on.
