Baked Paint Vs Ordinary Paint Job

m not sure what this "y2k" paint is but i've heard that is what Toyota applies on its brand new cars. bake paint is yet another essential quality. let me tell you that the cheaper it is, even from your own mechanic, the worse it's going to be. cheap paint never gives the same gloss or reflection expensive one does because painters done have that asthetic sense or sight. and trust me, cheap paint ALWAYS fades and cracks off after two years; sometimes even less.

1)do they use any special kind of paint?
2)do they use sumthng other then putty to plain the surface or its not needed?
3)how does the heating effects quailty of paint?
4)do all authourized car dealers hav this technology at their dealer ships?

well as my for my info......! i think baked paint here are mostly done on low temperatures which a normal human can servive.......the thing about rubber parts also came up in my mind but ppl said that its not much heat that rubber and plastic parts gonna be out of shape.....! they just apply heat so that paint will be done properly....its main purpose is to provide humidity free atmosphere as well as dust free enviorment so paint can be done properly......!
but more temperature can surely effect plastic and rubber items for sure....!

i need some clarification about something. WHY are ppl calling bake-paint dust free? are ppl assuming its done in a vacuum chamber?

A proper chamber or paint booth has vacumms (big sort of fans) on the bottom or front which pulls out dust/dirt particles that keep the booth dust free. U know the jobs that we get done here are really cheap as compared to the other countries and most people think even this is expensive. A real example is that my friend damaged her car in Dubai. Its a Hyundai Tuscan 4x4. Guess what she had to pay 1100 Dirhams for just one fender. That's like almost Rs. 25000. ONE FENDER!!!!. Paint jobs really require skill and thats what makes them expensive. If its done from a proper painter with good skills then its worth it. But from unskilled painter with the right tools not worth it. I do agree that Rs. 75000/= was a bit extra but like he said the job was amazing and its that satisfaction that one loves of a job well done.

Dear Friends,

I would like to add a little clarification here. Paint booth is to control dust, humidity, temprature etc...but it does not automatically mean that a car painted within a booth will be great. what you need is a special TYPE of paint known as 2K. ICI, Silken, and Standox all offer 2k paint. As rightly pointed out by someone this type of paint also requires special hardner and thinner. This type of paint (2k) will NOT fade or yellow easily but is more expensive than regular paint.

My advice is that if you love your machine/wheels than at least go for 2k paint...it can be the cheapest one...and it can be painted outside the booth if proper care is taken to avoid dust. Direct sun light in the summer is also great in baking it to a hard gloss in just a day.

I normally sand my 2k paints after the 2nd day. one night in the booth followed by parking the car in sun light in the 2nd day..and then sanding and compounding in the evening of the 2nd day.

boysss..... there is no such thing as bake painting in market.... paint is baked only in Manufacturing plant... for after market its paint booth that controls humidity and dust free environment..... the main thing is that either u go for paint booth or open air paint....the paint should be from the Dupont,stndox,seiken etc machine directly...and it should have all ingredients of same brand.

cheap price painters put desi thinner and lacker...which after a few months shows the quality...

so just make a wise decision

there is no such thing as baked paint (do they really bake the vehicle after paint job done? no never, the only process to paint is in a sealed chamber where no dust or air blow, this is also only available in a few of the work shops.

When stating the prices, please mention if its just the paintjob, or preparing the ground as well. Ground preparation (for primer) usually takes between 20,000 - 70,000 depending on the car, work required and the painter's experience. Baked paint jobs alone range between 5,000 - 8,000 at most places.

I always go for bake paint. It is expensive but insurance pays for it. It is expensive because only good workshops have this facility. But the end result is much better and difficult to differentiate from original.
