YUP STP lubricants are good enough to be trusted,agree wd margallar,
as we dont know what stage of damage is ur vits at but surely u can get a cure with stp lubrication.

so my car is burning oil, in N or P when I rev I can see smoke coming out of the car.. it burns a very little amount yet, but likes to smoke everytime I rev it in N or P. Cannot see any smoke when being driven

how to check what the problem is? on what should i keep a close eye on when rebuilding the engine?
engine has run about 100K kilometers. I know it is very low milage for this engine to go, but all the credit goes to the **** quality oils we might have been using unnoticed.

well this could have been due to poor maintenance but are you sure that the meter was not tempered with at the time of import

it looks like the meter is tampered, but that doesn't matter because when we bought the car engine was in a VERY good condition..

when we bought it had about 16000kms.. showing on the odo, but personally I think its off by about 20K.. should've been around 36K kms. I got the atf changed today which made me wonder about the actual milage on the carr.. but still, as I said before, the engine started blowing just about 4000 kms ago..

I know about that stuff, but I'm more inclined to a partial engine rebuild, cause I'm sure it won't need anything more than a new set of rings and a proper head job.

What I want to know is what should I look closely at when getting the head done? can any one shed some light on tappet / valve clearances for this particular engine, 1KR-FE - 1000cc 3-cylinder.. and other things I should make sure before the head gets back on to the block.

just try stp oil it costs only 200 rupees and it will work

@syncview wgen ur going for a rebuilt,just find a good mechanic and keep urself out'v hassle cz what ever the mechanic would be doing would be right for u even if he does something wrong still it'l be right for u cz u dont know already what is to be done and what not,
tappets/valves should be tight for first few 100 kms probably 1000 to 1500 kms probably.for vitz stuff wait for wassay to hit the topic or u can directly contact him,he has some good knowledge at vits .wassay_ahmed

you're probably right but I don't want to mess up it anymore, the damage isn't much and can be rebuilt perfectly. I have a good mechanic but need information on tappet/valve clearances, as to what the mechanics do to these and what should be done?

And I have never got rebuilt a new toyota engine before, so have no idea.
Only a Cherokee's but it is relatively a very simple engine, to me at least. and there is a difference of a few nights and days between the cherokee's engine and this little diddler.

Waiting for the experts to comment, I need help here!

take it to toyota for a review n consult some other good local mechanics,dont rely on one openion,if u need an engine re-built,exercise extreme caution,else in the end ul end up with many other problems of if your in favour of a swap,get a smiliar engine n swap it

Toyota people aren't exactly good at rebuilding engines have had a bad experience with a 1.6 corolla.

I'm looking into the rebuild costs as of yet, will look in to the idea of swapping as well.

@syncview where are u located? rebuilding wont cost u very much and swap is always the best thing but if u wana save money then rebuilding with the rings probably valve seats and springs etc is a better idea.and leme knw if u need i can refer u to my czn's garage,

haha dont know in whicxh world u live .If it has been total swap like another type of engine then it cost more otherise if 1 want to
stick with same generation of engine only to swap the assembly Thts it

No 1 can judge the original damage before opening the head so better madeup ur mind for worst.Usualy in this model the valave clearance needs to be monitored after like every 15 to 20k kms as the get harder.Th gaps start decreasing because of which engines brokedown if not taken car in time.
I would suggest u to swap entire assembly as Local rebuilders dont have proper tools to torque the nut bolts properly.2ndly rest conmsidering mileage the mechanic will for sure ask u for bi bore which is the biggest path to distruction of both money n engine as Cam,Cranks are profilled on lathe machines not CAM profilers so who knows wht calculation to follow as per the new pistons going in.

Only swap the assembly on genuine wiring n trans etc.

Hi,
you can check the compression of your engine first. If its on the low side, you can insert some engin oil through the hole and check compression again. If it rises than the extra oil is sealing the rings, therefore you have worn rings, if not much change then you have valve spec issues. Check them.
Do that first before deciding on the next step. Also, using a thicker oil can also minimize oil consumption.
As this issues has just started a few thousand kms ago, i would suggest to go with a good quality thicker oil and check in a few thousand kms again.
Opening an engine is a risky business, as i have personally done a cylinder head swap on my diesel and had to fix quite a few more things.
I have an old Prado that i work on myself, it has a really sooty exhaust, but i know that a good engine oil and filter is still cheaper than an engine/turbo rebuild.

these days i ve been in search of vitz 1000 cc and found that model 2005-08 with very good body conditions burn oil , i think these 660-1000 cc cars have large body with small engine and therefore engines have short lives , every of these vitz with 100000 km only burning oil. so i declare them as DISPOSABLE CARS.

go for new engine @ just 20000-25000, cost of rebuild is much high
