Yesterday my good colleague's driver hit his car at a pot hole near Ideal Bakery 26th Street DHA. My colleague went in to the ATM near by - dropped his driver near the signal and continued towards his home on Saba Ave.
The car stalled a few meters away from right after the oil indicator flashed - It won't crank anymore like its over heated. He called me up, i was on my way home but rushed over to him. Turns out that the oil chamber was damaged during the impact and all the oil was lost. We got 2 liters of oil from the pump near by and tried to add. But the damage was so severe that the engine wouldnt hold a drop inside. So we towed it to a mechanic and he told us that the chamber is broken as its made of some silver alloy which is not as strong.
He quoted 14k for a brand new one and 7k for the repair. We had no idea what to do, my colleague insisted for the repair.
Today the mechanic called us and told us that he has discovered that few of the crank bearings have also seized. He removed the bearing or the crank shaft somehow for the bottom of the engine and said that all new bearings will be replaced.
Asking 17k for the total repair. I am confused about how the crank shaft can be accessed from below the engine.
What do you guys think ? And just be careful with the newer cars - Apparently the material used nowadays is light weight but weak.!
