I've bought vitz (2005 + shape) twice in the last 3 years and kept a city 05 as well. Presently I have a 07 vitz regd 2010 (lhr no, if interested i'll sell it to you). Here is my opinion:
- vitz is quite fuel effecient (14kmpl local and 18kmpl highway but these are dependent on a lot many factors)
- japanese cars are more durable and dependable
- comfort almost same, city and belta obviuosly have an edge being saloon cars
- With abs and eps (city and belta both have it) driving is a pleasure
- You may say 1.0l vitz is underpowered but not to an extent where you feel any lag. Its the engine sound and cvt gear system that gives you a feel as such plus the smooth floating on roads. I'm not sure about belta if it is really under powered.
LASTLY and most importantly do consult someone when buying an imported car (like vitz and belta) there are lot of things to be aware of like:
--- like difference in auction grades and fake auction papers
--- repainted vehicles being sold as unregistered
--- odometer tempering
--- value of accessories and colour
--- registeration charges
Above all i'm also planning to shift to a saloon .. maybe belta or corolla x as i dont feel comfortable in long drives
The only negatives of vitz are its engine sound and clattering dashboard
