Best engine oil for suzuki mehran?

Mehran, alto, cuore all have flat tappets. For these car I would suggest to try sgo suzuki genuine oil premium 10w40 api sg. It is the only 10w40 oil available for old school engines. Drain Interval is 3000 kms. If car starts reducing this oil then shift to zic M 15w40 api sj. If still the problem persists then shift to havoline 20w50 or shell 20w50. All oils with api gradings above sj are not for these flat tappet engines. Even zic hiflo being 20w50 is not for mehrans. It is api sm. Please research well before the next oil change. @syncview had explained it quite well

All those suggestions to go for ZIC /others or specially shell 10w-40 oil are amazingly ignoring that most of these oils are either API SL, SM or SN. Specially considering that a senior member Xulfiqar has explained the drawbacks of using such oils in old engines very clearly and if one isn't able to understand or doesn't like the way he explains - they can always hit the INTERNETS!

you can use API SJ oils but not any newer than SJ, havoline, shell and mobil 20w-50 are perfect for your car.

I personally have been using 15w-40 API SJ for a long time now.. I was using LM Formula Super 15w-40 API SJ but due to some availability issues I switched to caltex delo silver 15w-40, later i found out that shop imports the 15w-40 delo silver directly since Caltex in Pakistan only offers 20w-50 in delo silver so as to remove any doubts i have now switched to Mobil Delvac 1300 Super - 15w-40 API SJ which is available at the mobil1 authorised shop in DHA Lahore. oil change interval = 4000 to 5000 kms.

paksuzuki themselves are using api sm and sn oils in mehran and efi cultus. and the links you have provided are for classic muscle cars operating under severe conditions. API sn oils can safely be used in fx, mehran, khyber, efi cultus etc

I am using sgo ultimate in my both mehrans.. and I found it good and no issue.. Suzuki recommends sn grade oil for mehran. Once I change grade and engine sound increase

get an owners manual of suzuki mehran. see what it says. even a brand new suzuki mehran's book says to use api sg. and nobody would take the blame for cam failure if it was because of api sn oil. I have heard bloody dealerships saying 'bhai jaan koi sa bhi oil daal do' woh api sg wala 3000 km chalega aur api sm 5000 km.

Yes.. under bonnet it's written also in booklet.. also Suzuki dealership of texila, azim motor isb and okara Suzuki motor told me whenever I came for oil change.. one mehran is 120k+ driven

what booklet? there has to be a green covered book printed by suzuki motors. ok do one thing. goto suzuki and ask them that if sgo ultimate is the ideal choice then why do we have the apI sg one on the shelves???

None of Suzuki 3S is now using sg grade oil.. as far as I know

Book which comes with new car... all specs of car us written on it...
I visit 3S yesterday he said sg is for only 2500 km while ultimate is for 5000 km.. why would you buy sg when I am not having any problem with both engines...

ya. it is really nice of @turbo_charge to bring up this issue. as far as the sticker is concerned, the first option should have been the api sm one if it were Intended for mehran, but the api sg shows up first. moreover ur car won't just die if u pour api sm if the other one's out of stock. so suzuki plays safe to ensure that aftermarket oils are not purchased

caltex is launching a new 10w40 api sj too. I am waiting for it to be shelved. it will be the most prudent option.
