Ok my car is Suzuki baleeno, 1999, mileage 125K approx, 1300 cc MT, front wheel drive! i use PSO gear oil bt i am not satisfied with it, gets dark pretty soon!

my second car is JDM corolla 1997, 1500 cc, 100k on odo, AT, front wheel, use ZIC AT brand in it.

my 3rd ride is suzuki mehran 800 cc1995 almost 80000 on odo, MT, use PSO oil in it! not happy at all!

Also i started this thread so that a "dont know how and why person" like me can benefit from experts like you.

I can suggest oils for all three, but they may or may not be available in Pakistan at a reasonable price or from a trusted source.

For the Suzukis, I would suggest the Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear oil, while for the JDM Corolla, Mobil 1 Type 3309 synthetic ATF.

I am sure local experts will be able to help you better.

I was about to make a same thread.
I have a Baleno with about 120k kms on clock.
I think I should change its gear oil as its never been changed before.

I would appreciate the experts recommendations about this.
Should I change it or not ?

What are the concequences of changing or not ?

I know there is no link b/w engine oil and gear oil. So using mineral oil in engine and using synthetic oil in gear is no issue ? Am I right ? What will be the life of the oil you recomended(in kms) ? I will be changing it first time after 120k kms, should I change it or still drive with it ?

The engine and trans oils are in separate compartments, so no worries there.

I would suggest the Mobil 1 75W-90 full synthetic in your car, changed every 75,000 km, but immediately if having driven through deep standing water that floods the engine compartment.

If it is the original fill, it will likely be a straight 90W mineral oil. If Mobil 1 is not available, then look for any 75W-90 oil meeting at least ILSAC GF-4 standards.

Using synthetic oil instead of mineral oil for gear is for long drainage period or any other benefit ?

Synthetic lubricants can give better economy, specially in the winter, provide easier shifting when the gearbox is cold, lower operating temperatures and greater resistance to shear or breakdown.

I have a brand new Honda City. I'm using Zic transmission oil (red bottle). After discovering low oil level (company fault), I had the original oil flushed out and replaced it with Zic. The transmission feels smooth with no grinding.

Yes, it is Gear 5. This is what I bought:-

It cost me Rs.450 per 1 litre of bottle (Rs. 1800 in all 4 bottles)

If a car has driven though deep standing water, it would have harmed the transmission oil? Does that hold true in case of A/T cars as well? I have a Civic VTi 2000 model and I've been noticing a jerk of late, and now that I think about it, I did drive it through some deep standing water recently.

Would you say this is the reason? And what ATF would you recommend for the mentioned car?

You should change the trans oil as soon as convenient with Honda ATF fluid, or any fluid that is certified to meet Type F standards.

Type F fluid is grabbier, and use of any other fluid will increase the wear on clutch packs and shorten the service life greatly.
