It is my desire to offer individuals without Bikes who really want to See Pakistan from Karachi to Khunjerab Pass by offering them the BIKES, and entire Trip with full support of personal Cook, Bike Mechanic, Support Vehicle with all supplies, Back up Rider in case you get tired, All Meals and Hotel Accommodations.

If you plan to do the same trip from Karachi to Naran or even to Astor, here is how you can make it more economical.

1) Take a Buddy Along.

This way even if you add in the cost of food and hotels plus an extra Train Ticket for your friend your total expense will go up to maybe Rs 26,000 at most, but if you divide that in half you are looking at only

Rs 13,000 per person.

2) Take a Tent

You can also take a Tent along so that you can save on Hotels along the way at Naran and Astor. This can bring your expense down even further.

3) Reduce Speed to Save on Fuel

In many locations I sped up to 90 and even 100 km/hr. I suggest that if you keep a comfortable speed of approximately 70 - 80 kms then your fuel cost would drop substantially.

4) Walk to Saif Ul Maluk

Instead of driving your bike or renting a Jeep to Saif Ul Maluk or Rama just take a two hour hike. It will be fun and very cheap as you will save on fuel.

5) Just go up to Naran

Rather than going all the way to Gilgit or Astor, just take a Trip to Naran and forget about going any further. This will further reduce your total expenditure to well under Rs 10,000 per person.

If you plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time you can enjoy this long journey for a lot cheaper if you have company to split the expenses with.

Inspired....and the intensity of this inspiration going on increase with the pace of this thread (Currently reached at page 11). I even don't have a bike experience at all and always prefer to walk along the TREK but hopefully in near future I'll make a short plan of biking after getting some info about 'HOW TO DRIVE IT' and definitely with some trekker's company;)

Taking air filter out is to give the engine more flow of oxygen which is normally less at altitudes and air filter restricts some amount of air and removing muffler is an other option to give engine restrict free exhaust but that could not have helped any further as your GS150 had outdone already with out these modifications .
Further removing exhaust could have done the damage to your and passer by's ears along with damage to the atmosphere.

Here is the Total Expenditure for the Entire Trip:

Rs. 20,510

My earlier guess was Rs 18,000 but I had forgotten to include Rs 2,000 for the jeep rental in Naran. So the exact figure after calculating it is Rs 20,510

1) Fuel Expense: Rs. 7,690 (Karachi - Islamabad - Naran - Chillas - Astor/Rama - Chillas, Naran - Islamabad)

2) Oil Change (2): Total Rs. 950

3) Hotel Expense: Rs. 1,100
Naran - Rs 300
Astor - Rs 500 (My mistake, I earlier said it was Rs 600 but now that I am checking my Diary it was 500 )
Naran - Rs 300

4) Food : Rs 2,200

5) Train Ride (me) : Rs 4,870

6) Train Transport : Rs 1,700
(Bike)

7) Lalazar Jeep Rental : Rs 2,000

Thanks for your positive response as well as advice on air filter and muffler. Removing the muffler would not even cross my mind since that already troubles me when boys drive their bikes all night without their muffler, in fact the season is just around the corner (New Years Eve). It will certainly be a loud and sleepless night here in Karachi with the loud bikes roaring down the streets.

Sorry, I should have clarified. The Food Expense was not for the entire 12 days but rather only for 8 days during which I was traveling. The rest of the 4 days were spent with relatives in DI Khan and in Islamabad so there was no food expense during those stays.

My Expense was for the following days;

Day 1 - Driving from Karachi to Uch Sharif
Day 2 - Driving from Uch to D.I. Khan

Day 4 - Driving from D.I. Khan to Islamabad

Day 6 - Driving from Islamabad to Naran
Day 7 - Driving from Naran to Astor
Day 8 - Driving from Astor back to Naran
Day 9 - Driving from Naran to Islamabad
Day 10 - Train Ride from Pindi to Karachi
Day 11 - I Reached Karachi in the morning so no expense as I had Breakfast with Relatives in Karachi

Removing air filter might have caused a little feeling of lightness nothing extra ordinary but at the same time passing through dusty areas it was quite a chance that engine would suck the dust particles which is bad for engine health,so if your bike is doing good with air filter intact,you would not need any modification,i feel.

Assalamulaikum

I thank you for such a positive response and I sincerely hope that you too get the opportunity to travel through Pakistan with your brother some day. And only then will you personally experience the true hospitality of people in small areas who may have not much to offer but they offer all they have.

Its a truly beautiful country we have with the most wonderful people, and although there are many self centered individuals in all cities and some smaller villages, I am sure. But we cannot generalize about everyone in the country based on a few bad apples.

I have personally driven to the four corners of Pakistan from Karachi to Thar Parker on the far East end of Sindh near the Indian Border, as well as to the west end of Baluchistan to Gawadar and as far as Jivani ( the farthest west city bordering Iran) and to to North to Quetta and to Ziarat and have visited the Jinnah House which has now been burnt to a crisp. I have driven by car all the way up to Babusar Top while staying in Naran. I enjoyed my travels over the past three years so much that I wanted to see the most I could now via bike.

And this was my experience narrated in the two threads I have posted of the wonderful people and locations I passed through during my adventure.

Its now my plan to eventually cover Kashmir which was incomplete due to my accident in Murree, as well as visit Sawat if I can some time in the future.

I am currently planning a drive to Islamabad from Karachi in the last week of January for a family wedding. Not sure if I will have enough time to venture onward to see some snow up North in Naran or other areas.

Anyways, thanks so much for your response and I am glad you enjoyed it. I only hope that some day I will be reading your thread here about your trip through Pakistan, In Sha Allah.

I however, did take another road trip just last month to Islamabad but that was by Car. If that is what you are referring to then I will have to In Sha Allah make the time to write a thread about that as it too was quite eventful though not as much as the bike trips I have had thus far.
