Black engine oil?

I would suggest to make a habit to change oil within 3 months or 4000kms (whichever comes first). Will save you from lot of hassle. Also the oil turning black is a good thing. but since the engine is new, I would suggest to be more careful and vigilant in oil changes.

4 months or 3.5k Kms for a mineral oil..Drain interval for synthetics varies from manufacturer to manufacturer..

Oh. I'm using Honda's Synthetic Oil. Hope it lasts long! Thanks btw

the first oil drain is usually black, that is because Honda engines have the dow corning moly 77 applied as assembly lube, the DC-MolyKote 77 is pitch black.

While reading the above posts, I was wondering if the car running is not that much do you still need to change the oil every 3 months?. In my case time would come earlier, as I had put in Shell Helix Ultra which gives a maximum change interval of 5,000 kms but my daily running is very low about 20kms. So I have just completed 4,970 kms after about 8 months. If I were to change my oil after 3 months I would have only done about 1,500 kms. So what do I do in my case????? :S

using a car for very short distances is called extreme high torture on the engine oil.

you bet it is - the oil never gets hot enough to clean itself and then makes sludge and sticks it everywhere on the engine like the hooligans of every political party in Pakistan stick posters to walls.

zulfiqar bhai whats the oil changing interval for a diesel car which is driven very less 6-7kms daily?

No interval, you should replace that car - diesel cars are usually bought when the driver has to drive at least 50 kms a day, it takes a good 10 or 15 minutes drive to warm up my 6 cyl diesel covering about 5 miles. Using it for that short distance is strange, it must be terribly coked out too.

when I drive (btw I drive 165 kms a day) and if I have to stop shortly by a pump or get something to eat I leave the engine running, it keeps the engine nice n warm.

And I do spin it to 5500 rpm usually to keep it clean. (btw dont try that, I do that because my engine revs like a petrol engine)

get it hot and wring it out, petrol engines heat up faster than diesels

same problem with me. daily running aprox 20-25km with mostly sat n sun off!

xulfiqar bhai what shud we do? 5000km will be completed in approx 10 months
should we change oil in 4 months or should we complete the 5000km mark? or should we define a central time like 6months(approx 3000km running)

and another question. why should then we invest in expansive synthetic oils. we should use normal mineral oils then

^^ Vitz owners' manual never ever say that you use synthetic oil.
Pure mineral oil works excellent. Costs you less, hence you will feel less financial pain when you change it after 4 months.
