BMW e36 320i first car project

Hi. City is going well. needs some care from me as i ve been away for too long but mechanically its fine. Mileage is around 340k kms now.

hmmmm... You have me thinking about doing yet another DIY. this looks doable. i ll check what kind of oil it takes n stuff. Lets get this one done as well... just wondering, why does the pipe inside the bottle needs to be dipped in oil?

it is my understanding that the bottle is only for accumulating the oil that is coming out of the bleeder valve. so shud i fill some new oil in the bottle before pumping out old one into it?

Edit: Does having ABS brakes changes the process of flushing the oil in brake lines? i see i might have to activate the ABS pump to force fluid out of the system etc etc. sounds a bit more complicated.

the liquid provides a barrier meaning air wont be able to get sucked back on the upstroke (system under weight of liquid).

you also dont need to work the abs pump as long as there is liquid in system. The time when it gets ugly is when you go dry on the master cylinder OR - your ABS pump thinks its an omelette.

Yes!! Its the same Jatco that goes into some Nissans. Its standard for Japan-spec e36s. u have experience with it? how is it? good? bad? average?

its a bit delicate and has some odd issues. like flaring shifts. Nothing to be proud of. btw dont assume its filled for life . its got a fill port

good thing is there are lots of japanese cars out there with it. so hard parts are cheap

There are 3 big 5w bulbs to light up the cluster. 1.5w ones for the mileage readings and 1.2w for all the error lights etc.

I see... so the bottom line is, i SHOULD be able to flush the oil without any issues. the ABS pump is fine. it works well. although one or two of my wheel speed sensors malfunction most of the time giving up ABS light. gonna fix that soon as well. but sometimes it works fine and pump works well.

I might not have the flaring issue but i sure have, between 1st and 2nd, the famous 'jatco jerk', as known in the e36 community. other then that so far its fine. yes i ve seen the fill plug and the drain plug as well. both on the bottom of the pan.

There are 3 big 5w bulbs to light up the cluster. 1.5w ones for the mileage readings and 1.2w for all the error lights etc.

The cluster uses 3W bulbs (also printed on the back shell) for surround illumination. Using 5W bulbs in that place is a sure shot way to melt stuff and even cause fire. The 3W bulbs also make the cluster have the correct bright red illumination evenly throughout, yours looks like its almost bright yellow.

Best to change them to 3W - its not too late.

you can see in your own picture that the cluster shell says 12V3W for the illumination bulb socket.

Yes, the stupid bump shift of the 1-2 change of this unit is almost non-repairable, Its also experienced in old Mazda 929s, Nissan Gloria, Skyline etc etc.

Does the unit shift aggressively at full throttle? Or has it succumbed to slushing at high rpm too?

I think its too thin after the polishing job. Perhaps i shud get it changed now.

The cut is too rough and not finished with a cross cut (I use a rough buffing wheel to make a cross hatch while the disc is on the lathe chuck) - the pads may squeal or grind for a long time before they bed into this rough cut.

I hope your mechanic sand blasted these discs or at least wire buffed the center hats before mounting them to the car, If he forgot to do that then there is a 50% chance that your brakes will pulsate, this happens when any rust between the hub and disc hat cocks the disc while mounting.
