Firstly, I don't think Dharavi is the largest slum in the world anymore. I know of one that exists west of the Indian border but I shall say no more on the subject. What I know for sure is that Dharavi is the world's most multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-faceted slum, not to mention, the world's safest. Secondly, I'd like to get this straight - you'd like to see the areas of the city which bode well with what you've been fed your entire life? Yes? Maybe that'd help you "note" what you're craving to see? Had you read the thread description, you'd have known not to comment negatively just for the heck of it.
...who contribute several crores worth of revenue to the Indian economy on a daily basis. The people who live in the city's shanty towns are hard-working, industrious men and women whose importance to the service industry of the city (and the country) is unparalleled. The fact that this city has a not-so-large land mass means that property prices are among the highest in the world, and being the economic magnet that it is, Bombay sees a huge influx of people from rural areas on a daily basis who sadly, cannot afford the unbelievably expensive housing. The government should do more, but as the famous saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day".
I'm not defending the existence of slums here, but "inhuman" is what you make of it - many shanty-town residents have cars, two-wheelers, flat screen TVs and full fledged local industries. They also have 24/7 power and utilities. Drainage is an issue, which is being worked upon as I type this
My pics are from all over the city, by the way. Maybe I should've thrown in a few more pics of the cheap Swift to make it more relatable eh?
FYI, the slums around the airport are being redeveloped, and the whole area is being gentrified - slowly but surely. They were allowed to spring up decades ago (by successive apathetical governments) and are now in the thick of vote bank politics. Currently, the city's authorities face the gargantuan task of massive slum-rehabilitation.
LMAO. 90% is an amazingly exaggerated figure most south Asians pull out of their a**es. I'm surprised you didn't say 99%. What "real India" are you talking about? The India that is trying hard to alleviate itself out of poverty? Mr. Sdogar, the side of India in my pics is just as real as the side you'd like to see more of, so the sooner you digest it whole heartedly, the better.
Thankfully for me, the glass is always half full! Have a great Sunday.
Cheers
