Brand new VXR, poor fuel economy

Hello all:

I bought a Wagon R VXR about 6 weeks ago. The fuel economy is 10-11 km/l which I think is very poor.

We keep the RPM low and don't take the car beyond 80-90 km/h. My reborn with similar driving habits gives me slightly better mileage on similar roads (mostly in DHA, Lahore).

I took the car to Suzuki Cantt motors for 100km inspection and reported the issue. The mechanic told me to compute the mileage by refueling only after one day of drive (~80km) and the results would be better

I told the mechanic that I barely get 350km on full tank and that is how the mileage is calculated but he did not believe me, I think. I insisted on running the OBD scanner and check the spark plugs. The mechanic reported all good (not sure if I should trust him after listening to his method of calculating mileage!)

I see many other people complaining about poor mileage on Wagon R in 10-12 range. But many others are getting 15+ as well. Any mechanic I should take the car to? Can I report it to Suzuki somehow? Any other advice? Thanks for your time.

Brand new car is bound to give poor mileage, it would get better after 5000 km or so, don't worry.

My car was giving 11-12. I guess it has touched 12-13 after 1200 kms.

So I'm not very impressed by the average my self. Everyone claims it will get better after 5000 kms oil change etc. But the service advisor told me 12-13 is good enough dont expect too much.

Mostly 350 on 30-31 liters.

Last tank went upto 380 on 30 liters.

Hmmm.. maybe it will get to 12-13 after few thousand kms. I know several people on forums who are getting around 12 (and consider it to be bad); I also think 12 on a 1000cc car is bad considering that my old 1800cc civic gives 11+ as well. Newer Civic's are even better in fuel consumption.

There is also a large number of people who are getting 15+ or even more on their local Wagon R's. Is the manufacturing process of Suzuki not standardized such that we see such a large variation in car mileage?

Most posts I saw with 15+ mileage mentioned that they use AC full time. My car is driven on low AC, low rpm, not too much braking. As a comparison point, same driving style on 1800cc reborn gives the same economy rate as on this new VXR. Not good, right?

Joking aside, this is a serious issue because that is extremely low mileage for such a new car. Take it to another dealer/shop?. I don't know much about wagonr though but even the careem wala praised its fuel economy so much. 11km isn't praise worthy, my passo gives me 12 and I have a mountain for a foot lol. So yeah get it checked out or maybe someone else has a better suggestion.

Sir your car is in break-in period at the moment. Insha Allah you will get better figures after 5k kms.

Just make sure to use quality oils & filters like 5w-30 & dont get that shitty suzuki geniune oil 20w-50 or 10w-30.

If I remember correctly, I got 4 kmpl on 1st tank of my civic X oriel with extreme light foot. After that it started improving slightly.

I wanted to post an update to this topic to close it. Many other people might run into similar situation as I did and they might have the same question.

So, in summary, as many friends suggested on this thread, the car mileage did go up with the passage of time. The first full tank on this new WagonR gave me less than 330km. Now, after 5000km of driving, one full tank easily takes the car beyond 430km, sometimes even more. The average is close to 15km/liter now.

Besides, the car drives well and is serving as a good school-use car with daily average drive over a 100km.

im done 7500km plus, its still gives me 370-390 on 32-33 liters.

Millage will get better after first oil change don't worry..only use 5w-30 oil.

My wagon R's avg is 15.8 without A/C and with light foot while driving in Lahore in defence. It's kinda low. The oil that I am using is total quartz 5w-30. Stock tyres and the mileage is 4700 kmWhat could be the reason for such an AVG?
