Brief engine rattling sound on cold start - Toyota Altis 1.6 Cruisetronic

Bro.. I'm living in Quetta n here I won't be able to find Liquimoli. I have already tried Ceratec with Total Quartz 5w30 fully synthetic but that did not work for me. It's not tick tick sound but u r right that it's a rough sound with oil lamp ON for that one second. You know that engine RPM jumps up to 1.5 when engine starts n then gradually drops to 0.8 as the engine warms up. That initial engine rev is rough and thereafter it is smooth. I think 5w30 is the right oil grade irrespective of the brand of oil.

Change your oil brand and see does it makes difference. Try Shell helix ultra 5W40 fully synthetic with Toyota original oil filter.

Already used shell helix ultra 5w40, purchased from shell authorised pump. It was so bad that I changed oil at just 1500kms. Cold start was rattling as heck, and high rpm were damn noisy.

I would suggest you to change your engine oil to liqui moly 5w40 Synthoil hightech. It solved all issue in my car. Use liqui moly engine flush first and than pour 4.2L

It solved all of these type of issue in my car and cars of other friends. Surely it will solve these issues in your car as well. Drive this oil upto 8-10k kms

Grade matters, but on top of that research and development also matters. You just don’t compare oil giants like mobil 1, liqui moly, amsoil and royal purple with any other company. Shell is good, but the one which is available in US not the one available in Pak.

Many Thanx Dear.. I'll try it for sure now. Let's hope they deliver to Quetta as well but it's a 4L packing like most of the other brands and I may have to order 2 x 4L packs. Do they have a 1L pack of the same oil? I'll have to use 200 ml from that one. I was surprised to notice that there's no oil light on my car's instrument cluster. Lol

Try to locate where the sound is coming from..make someone turn the ignition while you stick your head in the engine bay for the exact idea.
My point, I suspect your self starter is giving you that brief noise. When you turn the key, the starter gear pushes forward and engages its teeth with those of flywheel to turn engine. Now if the starter fails to pull back the gear (for even a split second) the engine will make that rrrrrr noise..be it brief or for less than a second.

your only problem is WEHAM. your car is absolutely fine.

please make a video of the sound coming so you can be guided properly, sub hawai fire maar rahay hain bhai mat chair chaari kero apni gaari k saath.

Bhayya.. I do agree that it might not be a big problem but yehi WEHAM doosri car (same make n type) mein nahi hota when I start that. It may be a minor issue but it exists for sure. I'm not going to do any worthwhile cher chaar in car. At max, oil change to another brand. Hawai fire kisi ka to lagay ga nishanay pe

That's an alogether different sound when the self starter doesn't retract. It's not that sound

Go into petrol and hybrid section when you open their website. There you can find one liter packing and four liter packing as well.
Use LM engine flush as well before pouring new oil.
Also, message on facebook page, they might give you discount or cheapest shipping way.

Sound will be reduced after first oil change and it will be vanished after the second. Believe me, I was facing these things on 5w50 toyota taglon as well.

Timing chain after few hours you’ll come to know that even your crankshaft is messed up. Bro, its just a dual vvti acutator which makes sound only at cold startup, your oil should be great enough to overcome it. That’s it.

Well i didn't pay much attention to it and had to change the tensioner, it is the most common culprit because its teeth wear out and the timing chain slips. Do you use original toyota oil filter or gaurd?

Can u let me know the procedure involved? How is the tensioner changed? Cost and time taken etc? Thanx

The timing chain cover on the side of you engine will have to be opened, it will take about 2-3 hours. And i got the tensioner from lahore for 7000/- and paid 1500/- for labour.
