Its just the concept of older model requiring frequent maintenance that's bothering you, but I assure you that a '97-'98 corolla would be more reliable than a Liana and it'll require less maintenance compared to Liana. Its engine is simple and our mechanics can understand it easily, it won't bother you at all if you find a clean ride, like the ones that are cleared recently in the amnesty scheme. You need to try it, and if at some point you feel that its hard for you to maintain, you can simply sale it at absolutely no loss and go for your preferred Liana which will get cheaper as the days pass due to lack of spare parts and further reduction is demand.
BTW one of the guys suggesting you to go for a Liana has actually sold his own liana and bought a 27 years old JDM Honda. try asking him the reason behind such unwise decision.
