Yes, auto Altis 1.8 has tiptronic gear box. That's one of the reason I bought this car.
When you pull the lever to right in D it goes to S mode and you can select gears by moving lever up & down.

I was also really excited when I bought the same car in 2011
No doubt it's a good gear box but what's the use when 2 uses ( 1st 2 gears not only 2nd ) 3 uses first three gears not just 3rd 4th uses all 4 gears the car is not locked in only 4 !
It's nice for revving and going up hill but still the car should get locked in the respective gears
When you floor the car in D the car changes all the gears at almost 6300 rpm
and if you put the car in S mode and shift it to 2 and start from zero it will first move in first gear and then the second
I don't really see any practical use here !
If we slow down the car from 60 to 40 and then floor it , it will downshift to 1st Gear
same thing happens in D

Oh why not ? Looks fine to me + the body kit will add more spice.

would u suggest me to install bodykit and keep oem grille ?

I think its better to stick with the stock grill as it looks more good
but do go for bodykit

Yes you have to change gears in S mode
But let me give you a simple example here you can try it on your car
after selecting S mode
you bring your car to " 1 " then start accelerating then shift to 2 then 3
then apply brakes
don't downshift manually to 2 or 1
The cluster will display 3
now accelerate again
the car won't start accelerating in 3rd gear directly
it will first start in 1st gear depending on how much you are flooring it , it will then shift automatically to 2nd gear ( still you will be seeing 3 in the speedometer ) and finally it will come in 3rd gear
I hope there is no further confusion !

all tiptronics have a fool proof feature, when you slow down even in s3 it will start in first to prevent stalling etc, even in mercedes in tiptronic mode it will even automatically upshift if you stay in red range too long even though its tiptronic mode
similarly in motorway try shifting in altis from s3 to s1, it wont let you it will even beep twice, thats the safety feature inherent to all tiptronic be it toyota bmw mercedes etc

Actually many owners never read the owners manual when they purchase a new car
Most of the times we never get owners manual when we purchase a second hand vehicle
Everything you just mentioned is 100 percent right
And in Toyota corolla manual since 2008
My point was if some one is really looking for fun to drive factor
Only a manual transmission can give you that
Even new grande with paddle shifts will act in a similar manner too if we try to downshift to 2nd gear at higher speeds

Agree, XRS grill does not suit the dark colors. You can add this chrome surround;
