Throw? Why not dodge?
By Michael Bou-Nacklie
JEDDAH – The recent shoe attack on US President George W. Bush, has sparked an outbreak of internet games but the most popular is one that gives users 30 seconds to hit Bush with a brown shoe as many times as possible.
The game uses a camera grab from the press conference where the incident occurred last Sunday in Baghdad and players can move the arm of the now infamous shoe thrower television reporter Muntazer Al-Zaidi.
Like in real-life, in the popular game too, Bush ducks deftly while a tally is kept on the side of the screen. On-target shots are met with a puff of red above the president’s head and a thumping noise demonstrates a hit has been made.
Users online have remarked their glee at being able to toss a shoe at Bush.
Icequeen057 said on a discussion board “the thwacking noise on impact is so satisfying.”
Not all users were satisfied with the game with several commenting that the objective of the game should be to dodge the shoe rather than score a hit.
“Shouldn’t the object be to dodge the shoe? Stupid game!” said Kahuna1981.
EviltomTe said: ”However unpopular he is, I don’t support this kind of bashing.”
The game appears on the site www.sockandawe.com – a pun on “shock and awe”, the term used by US military officials to describe the initial air assault on Baghdad in 2003, Reuters reported. – SG
