Honda uses IMA ( Integrated motor assist) it is also a hybrid system but each company has different.
In IMA the engine never shuts off (except stops) instead the motors helps engines which reduces load on it and it consumes less fuel.
Under some conditions the engine keep at idle speed and motors drive the car but the engine keeps on running!!
The CVT helps alot in saving fuel and keep R.P.M below 1500 till 75 km/h under normal conditions and the car at that speed constantly give 25-30 km/l.
It gives normally 19-19.5 on highways(i am not talking about motorways) and 17-18 in city (light foot).
