Tbf part of this is because of the duty structures we have. Both the Shark and Canon Alpha are PHEV, and the Shark is a CBU on top of that. And both Shark and Canon Alpha are a segment above the Hilux, D-Max and Hunter because they're significantly bigger than them.
PHEVs don't get any duty benefits of EVs and have similar taxes and duties as regular hybrids. And as far as I remember, tax holiday on imported hybrids was discontinued in 2024 so these are taxed close to how a regular imported gasoline vehicle would.
If GWM also launch with a CBU, I speculated that the price would be PKR 30-40 million or even higher considering the gasoline 2.0T HEV Tank 500 is still PKR 45 million and the Canon Alpha is the truck variant of Tank 500, just with a PHEV drivetrain.
CKD hopefully would have lower prices because they'd be taxed at 8.5% like other hybrids so maybe BYD should've waited for that.
