To avoid the crowd of releases at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Exhibition, BYD puts the G3R on the market today. A hatchback version of the G3 compact, the G3R comes as either a 1.5L MT for 59,900 Yuan (7.7 lac PKR) or a 1.8L CVT for 73,900 Yuan (9.5 lac PKR).

The 1.5-liter BYD 473QB engine is rated 80kW/5800rpm and 144Nm/4800rpm, and matched with a 5-speed manual transmission, the 1.8-liter BYD483QA putting out 90KW/6000rpm and 160Nm/3700-4200rpm and paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). These two power-train choices are shared with the G3 sedan.

With a 2600mm wheelbase, the hatchback has the same styling and structure as the sedan–except it is 220mm shorter (4380mm vs. 4600mm).

Standard features on both editions of the hatchback include key-less entry and one-touch start, ABS (EBD), backup radar, power exterior mirrors, and two front airbags.

The new BYD G3 will be launched in the China car market later this year. Chinese media report the G3 will get a new 6-speed dual clutch transmission, the first time any automaker will offer a DCT in such a cheap car, price will range from around 63,000 yuan (9.2 lsc PKR) to 80,000 yuan (11.7 lac PKR).

Power will come from a new 1.5 with 116hp and 145nm. BYD will also offer a standard 6-speed manual. The face lifted G3 looks much better than the outgoing car, especially the front has improved a lot.
