Right to freedom of speech is not a pie in the sky. Civilized and developed nations protect this right in their constitutions in one form or another and judiciary validates it when it is challenged by over reaching government agencies or others on their behalf. Any media company, regardless of their medium of information dissemination, should be allowed to operate without any government oversight, as long as the information being broadcast is not vital to national security. It is a sad day for civil liberties when a government forces a news outlet, no matter how biased, to shut down due to its critical views of the administration.

By the way, Fox News is probably the most right wing biased media outlet in the US. I think MSNBC and CNN provide balanced news coverage. Talk shows are another story altogether. If you notice, most talk shows will have a disclaimer at the start of the show informing viewers of the opinions and views being of the participants only. Network airing the show is not responsible for the content. This is one way to ensure freedom of speech and not being held liable if the contents end up hurting someone’s feelings.

So freedom of speech is really not a freedom at all as far as you guys are concerned. Does it mean that if you don’t agree with someone’s view, shut them down? What happens if it is YOUR view and you believe that it is your right to present it but everyone else disagrees? Should you be locked up since you thought you live in a civilized society where your right to free speech is protected? Or you guys just don’t have the guts to express any views that are off the norm? Just tow the line laid down by the administration and every thing will be hunky dory.

Every word coming out of there mouths spewed anti-government sentiments as though the opposition are angels!

The way they insulted politicians of the coalition during interviews, treating them with no respect, accusing them and talking to them as though they are someone to be disgusted.

FREEDOM IS THE RIGHT OF EVERY LIVING BEING! BUT IN THE LIMITS!!! You cant go around raping people and say ITS MY FREEDOM!

Its this propaganda filled in our minds about the "Freedom of the press". It is as though the media can do ANYTHING and not be questioned for, whether it breaks the law of the country, the confidentiality and privacy of people, the basic human rights and ethics.

To ALL who think the government has done a lot wrong for their country, just ask YOURSELF how YOU have been effected, you are STILL sitting at home on your PCs having fun chilling out like you always do. MashAllah a lot of people here have had their business in cars grow (just and example) thanks to THIS governments import policies among other things.

Geo was a good info and news channel initially but they changed themselves into Anti-Pakistan and Anti-Govt channel.
We never hear CNN or BBC talking all the times against their own governments.

If Geo was so bad, then it wouldn't have got the response that it got from the people of Pakistan. It was the most watched channel of our country. Geo is closed because it didn't kneel down and it remained stiff. Please do not give references of CNN and BBC. You probably haven't seen how Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair have been treated by their media.
