Today got my only 2000 km driven oil changed for Petromin Synthomix. car is quiter than before but is little heavier also...may b due to the fact that it is more viscous than Zic A !!

Nobody is there to discuss this problem of 'heaviness' after the oil change??? thinking of pulling out say one litre of this oil and pouring in 1 litre of Zic A+ 5-20 to make the oil thinner as i have searched web and most of the experts find no harm in it...rather a few people do mix even minerals and synthetics routinely at the time of oil change. Also on the leaf of Synthomix it's been found written: ''miscible'' with all oils!! Experts are of the view that even oils of different viscosity can b mixed!

As there's nobody to help now, i have added Zic A+ in the car to make my oil thinner. i did it after consulting net. of course i withdrew as much oil first as much i needed to add. Now let us c what results are.

Had to change Petromin synthomix just after 300 km. Finally switched to CASTROL MAGNETIC 10-40 and i am very satisfied it as my car has settled 1300 km approx with it.

BTW all CALTEX oils also have API-SM rating from now on!!

Friends, Can you pls tell the difference between two oils? which is the better if they belong to the same class? Zic A is a semi-synthetic...Is Caltex 10-30 is also a semi synthetic one?

ZIC A is synthetic oil (SAE 10W-40, API SN). Caltex Formula (10W-30, API SL) Mineral oil, now the Caltex upgrading it into API SM grade.
Synthetic is better than Mineral, also API SN is better than API SL, SM. So brother I suggest u go for ZIC. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>

i ve inquired abt caltex havoline and caltex 10w30 is API SM only while 20w50 and 20w50 cng are APISG grade only..

Sir i used to b a regular user of Zic A from 10,000 km to approx 35,000 km. Despite this regular usage and despite the fact that i prperly maintained the cara, its engine got a little noisier. Now i'm quite satisfied with CASTROL MAGNETIC!

After using CASTROL MAGNETIC API SL 10-40 (semi-synth) I've come to the conclusion that merely writing latest ratings on the oil containers has nothing to do with oil's quality. my engine sound is reduced to normal again and it is smoother too!! Moreover, i have inquired Castrol people through their UK website regarding rating issue, they made Mr. Qadri, their managing director in Pakistan, contact me via email who assured me that they were working on it. So soon we'll have latest rating of Castrol oils also!

Mine is Alto 2010 and my brother has Chevy.. both of us have good experience with Castrol Mag. i think if TOYOTA dealers can pour 20-50 viscosity oils in new engines, why can't u give a try to a 10-40 oil like Castrol Magnetic in this summer?

Dear there is no difference between Caltex 10-30 and Castrol Magnetic 10-40 in terms of viscosity.... So u can safely use Castrol MAGNETIC which to me is the best engine oil in its class. pls use it and feel the difference and remember me in ur prayers for guiding u to something better!!

Which car u have, if Toyota they recommend 5W-30.
So use only 30 grade viscosity engine oil like 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30 these are viscosity grades for Quality use API SN or SM and ILSAC GF-5 grade only.
