By that i meant that three cars went to Murree from Rawalpindi, all manual. One Baleno and two Cuores. Two cars got their clutch burned. You know that smoky burnt smell? All because they were using clutch all along the hill climb. You should use as little as possible without endangering anyone. Half-clutch is the main culprit on hills. When I had a manual I always felt pride in my proper use of clutch and in 8 years of ownership of that car I never had to change its clutch or pressure plate. And I learnt to drive on that car (Cuore).
Anyhow, not stressing brakes means that do not use brake to control your speed unless it is the last resort. Brake is for stopping the car not modulating your speed unless the situation calls for it. Specially going down hill, use your gear to lower your speed. Engine might get loud but your brakes do not over heat that way.
Don't over stress though and try to enjoy the trip.
