Can /should we remove the Catalytic converter

Pakistani Altis comes with a Catalytic converter.
However all the usual engine diagrams that I have seen of 1ZZFE Engine there are two O2 (Lambda Sensors). One before the Catalytic Converter and other after the catalytic converter.
In case of local Altis there is only one sensor that is present before the CC and the other one is missing so in case if your CC is not working or its time to replace it still you wont be warned by the engine check light. (And in Pakistan relevent authorities wont care about the enviroment so no issue.)
A Friend of mine has a Japnese corolla 2001 and when he imported it some one at autoclub advised him to remove the CC and he went their but when their supervisor looked at the thing he told him that its not advicable to remove this thing as its completely sealed.
The CC of his car is still working today perfectly though he used the high octane. His car has a 1330 CC engine.

sadly even hioctane has lead deposits (no regulations here) and therefore those deposits are slowly choking your friends car.

If the altis has a cat it's a step in the right direction butthe fact that it's not setup right is comical (1 O2 sensor).

when my family imported one of our (UK spec) mercs we had to remove the cats because of the leaded fuel we get here. back then it was advised to us by MB colindale (UK).

@Storm I agree that its comical.
I think the one O2 Sensor that they have added is due to the fact that its the requirement of the automatic tranny of 1ZZFE and the enviromental factor is not in their mind.

@Storm/Racer F1/Leven/FLI_GTI Do Correct me if O2 sensor signal to ECU does not play any role in the gear shifting.

i'm not too sure if it's something new but as far as i know autos rely strictly on hydraulics to shift gears. It could be an air flow sensor instead of an 02 sensor which couldbe telling the ecu how much air is passing it and that might control if it's time for an upshift or downshift but i doubt it.

now you'll have me scratching my head on this one....

Nope it does not but it does have everything to do with Air/fuel ratios
