u are right its wash and wax not complete detailing, as amir bhai caught u .. so go into further details and properly remove leftover wax in corners

wax foam applicator must be properly washed clean before use as previous wax application may left some dirt or any other contaminent in form pores and cause swirls , scratches in next application.
for compounding, polishing, glazing , cleanzing , cleaner waxes application brings good outcomes in round circular application while finishing waxes use straight strokes application , this way u can minimize appearance of new swirls
ofcourse everyone already knows use very less qty of wax as it will easy to buff residue with minimal effort means less chances of new swirls
as well as safe expencive wax
apply wax in straight strokes in wind direction (e.g apply wax on door in horizontal direction instead of vertical) , trust me its work, in this way car skin attract less dust , a visible differnce and u must try this 
finishing wax is to enhance beauty on properly prepared skin , its not correcting paint so no need for hand force while application, just soft and slow hands application without any force perfect
must read application directions on back of every wax tin, give proper hazing time according to wax nature , weather conditions , if using first time any brand than apply one panel and check by finger about its haze time , it will give u idea that how much haze time require
microfiber must be washed / cleaned so dont put new swirls while buffing residue
use folded microfiber to buff residue, first use one direction to remove wax residue than turn around microfiber and give very soft slow wipe for supreme shine wipe , this 2nd wipe with very soft hands is key to get max from wax coat
