Car Care and Detailing Dreams (Part 2)

I clayed my ride using liquid clay but i did not got the results i should. I must be doing something wrong.

What i did washed my car (without shampoo) then applied clay, hardly 10 mins it took me to clay it and then i washed it again. Then i washed it again and applies cosmic.

Should i do the process once again as i think i should spend more force and time to clay each section.

Secondly how can i use shampoo, i have a small bottle of hisco formula 1 shampoo.

MashAllah....its been just a few weeks that youve stepped into detailing an look at the wonders yer pulling out ! Though I wouldnt advise on them nylon bristles.....youll put on more marks ! Nice progression....love the work! Keep at it !

Sealants are designed for primary protection and secondary looks and are typically slated to last 4-6 months minimum. Waxes on the other hand are designed for more looks and lesser protection and (leaving the hybrids aside) last for 1-2 months. So, a product meant for protection needs to be applied closest to car's skin i.e. bare paint. And if you are going sealant over a wax, you are still almost looking at a durability of layer underneath it (wax in this case). Keep in mind waxes have a lot of oils and therefore dont let the sealant cure/bond properly to last longer.

There isn't really a right or wrong combo here. If you are somebody that loves detailing and trying out different things and do it frequently, durability isn't really a concern. But results/studies have shown that, Wax over a sealant is a durable combo compared to vice versa. Either way, products should be let to cure fully before layering. At times, products of the same brand are less forgiving if you layer them prior to full cure. Some (infact most of) the products also have solvents in them as well that will do some cleaning along with the layer it'll put so a lot of times you are removing the layer below by layering (specially if its not fully cured).

I hope this sheds some more insight to waxes/sealants combos and cure times.

n i have been observing this thread from long time n people have been doing it this way,really never i read any1 doing sealent first n then wax like for example megs GC n then NXT spray on it though nowi mostly skim through long posts so dont know if u posted n i didnt read

As i said, there is no right and wrong here. Matter of preferences and what works best vs doing it differently. I have been here for a while as well and have seen several details specifically from Ahmad bhai where he shares his detailed procedure. I believe for professional car details of customers (meant to be both durable and good looking), he is also following the same that I mentioned (infact learned it from him to begin with). Almost every week (on his FB page) he shares a routine he does on a customers car and I doubt to have hardly seen him do a dedicated sealant over wax. For personal cars, I am sure Ahmad bhai has experimented a lot even mixing different products from different brands etc I have seen Amir bhai experiment a lot in combos but ask him how he prepares his car for winter and I am sure it'll be sealant first.
I haven't mentioned Usman bhai here since he hasn't shared the sequenced list of products (for obvious reasons of him being busy). The texts I've given you are from the manufacturer instructions mostly and experienced detailer's reviews over several years. Again, no right and wrong but a matter of preference and if you are looking to experiment/change routine OR doing a customer car or preparing your car for a combo based on best practices.

wow 10min for whole car
i clayed my car once only,n i wanted to be thorough so i did each 1 X 1 areas more than one time with to and fro motion many times,took me 3hr in total for wash clay wash
u should have washed with shampoo before clay since car needs to be clean,u wash after clay to clean clay residue

i dont have idea about liquid clay though n i was using shampoo foam as lubricant so took more time

That is some stamina how do you get to the roof of suv ? I don't think standing on door base gives you that reach and stability?

Sir, i mentioned time constraints in my previous post, you can judge the time issues by the fact that the owner was not able to wax his car for months. I would have allowed cure time if i could go to apply sealant next day or if the car was parked overnight at my premises.

Durability is one factor, but there are also other things considered, like the kind of look you desire. The kind of water repellency you want etc. There is no hadees about whether you must seal first or wax first, as you yourself say, it is a matter of opinion, so let it be.

infact even on my car @vague_one first compounded then dodo wax n then sealed it with the sealent

yes u can apply sealant over wax to get looks for short time but practically sealants give best protection for longer time on cleansed/ oil or wax free surface. there are some water based spray sealants like dodo supernatural acrylic spritz which give u flexability to even apply over wax coat ( sure u need curing time for wax coat to apply next product )

ahmed bhai tusaan pehle kithey se when i was suggested as well to apply sealent over wax :-#

but i guess this way it means u need to apply cleaner wax n then sealent n then wax not that if u regularly apply wax then sealent over wax would still mean sealent on wax as there were previous wax coats

btw how should be 3m performance finish be applied,after or before gold class/#26 wax
n if sealent is applied first then cured time will be less or doesnt matters?
since i dont like wet wipe (no detailer spray n get streaks/lines) so either i cant give cure time or if i do then there wont be more layers

Well, for one, I wasn't trying to degrade the work you've done in anyway. So if you've felt that, it wasn't intended. I also like to participate on this thread in a way where I ask people things based on experience they had with a particular detail. I've done that to v1, ahmad bhai, amir bhai and many others several times. I have only joined thread#2 while I know you've been a very active member of detailing thread1 doing lots of experiments and asking experts lots of questions (IIRC). So, you are more experienced in this domain and I respect that. I dont think there was anything negative or bad in my response that would ruin the atmosphere.

Also, My two detailed last posts were not meant to be a response of your detail, rather trying to explain/correct chaudhry's sealant-over-wax combo being the best/more preached/recommended combo verdict. All my explanations were purely detailing theory/best practices oriented and not pointing to you/chaudhry. I'd like to be corrected though if you think I did say anything as such. Please keep in mind that this thread is also a learning place for many people, so my explanations were also meant to educate those as well. You did a great detail that I and everyone appreciated. No superiority of my knowledge or degradation of your work was intended in any way.

as have mentioned this many many many times , we care our beloved cars like our kids and every weekend we give shampoo bath and wax coat to them like "Farz namaz" so in these cases we can do any experiment as we usually dont concern with longer protection and priority is best looks so in this case no matter sealnt over wax or wax over sealant, being car detailing addicts we all have right for such experiments , in my personal view sealnt over natural wax give masking, very good depth with high reflections ( less dust attraction ) but yes its true its life less compare to sealant over prep surface and top up with wax coat so bhai jan all upto ur preference

dont mingle waxes with sealants, waxes having comparatively less life and if aim is mask imperfections than very easy combo is mirror glaze #7 glazing in base and topup with mirror glaze #26 wax , as usually same brand products having better chemical bonding.

u can apply even ultimate wax over #7 glaze just give ipa wipe to surafce before wax and i tell u ultimate wax over #7 glaze give supper dupper looks ( azmayesh shart hai )

some people dont wish to correct paint ( compound /polish) for many reasons like they afraid to cut a layer of clear coat, they dont have experince for that or right tools , car is old and dont left enough paint layer on surface so in these cases detailers prefer masking imperfections and than sealed, in ur case ur car paint layer is also thin being car age thats reason usman bhai hesitated to give more cut to paint and instead of more deep cut he masked most of imperfections so its all depend upon ur moods and surface condition which a detailer take decision on spot.

Liquid clay is bakar , use proper clay bar to clay her
Do shampoo with double bucket method
If you want to utilize your cosmic, do wipe on/wipe off session with it
But do by one synthetic wax, I recon NXT from meguiars & one carnauba wax you can go for meguiars deep crystal carnauba wax.

In more simple terms-
There is no harm in experimenting different ways to use a product but a sealant will last longer if applied on a wax-free surface.(So that the sealant bonds properly).
I remember Ahmad bhai experimented by making his "ponatdo" kheer on eid, by mixing different waxes..
