waxes and polishes are two different things
waxes are of many types such as
carnauba wax
synthetic wax
cleaner wax
bese wax etc
a cleaner wax removes a thin layer of your paint and thus removes light scratches and swirls and bonded dirt
a carnauba is a natural wax and add depth and shine, carnauba has boiling point of 82-87 and is virtually insoluble in water so it offers good protection though not as long as some synthic waxes
now polishes/glazes
polishes offer no protection to paint unlike a wax
polishes add depth and gloss only and make paint shine much more if you polish and then wax, polish adds much polishing oils which nourish your paint
polishes also remove some swirls scratches etc
now a cleaner wax will remove scratches and a polish will as well, the level of scratch removal of a cleaner wax might be greater than a polish but it varies form brand to brand, polish however will add lots of polishing oils which is bad if you want to follow up with a sealant but good if you follow up with a carnauba etc
a cleaner wax basically combines a polish and a wax in one product which works when speed is important however the result won't be good as a two step polish/wax process
