This issue is off topic, out dated and taken well care of by zunny bhai, but i thought k main apna ullu b seedha karlun, even though zunny bhai has said it all and i second it.
I had read BACH's (BAd_CHeetah) (hows that for an acronym umar bhai :P) query regarding oil on the thread, as i was reading along, i instantly PMed him regarding his query, k kahin main late na hojaun or BACH ki haseena ko galat oil na miljaye (from haseena i mean his kali haseena). When BACH told me that even amir bhai is considering switching to Petromin, then i decided to post this to the thread.
I recommend Petromin Ulra 7 mineral oil because first of all it is introduced to the local market by our PM member Storm bhai (who shares my name interestingly). I have switched to petromin and just by looking at the bottle one in convinced that it is original, the back label is printed in arabic and the oil is coming from a company under the umbrella of the largest oil company in the world, i.e Saudi Aramco. That said, the issue of originality and quality is taken care of.
The price is 1600 for 4L, which is very competitive to the other oils available and when considering that this is an imported one, i think it is cheap ! I preferred to pick my oil from the company's (Engineering Equipment) regional sales office instead of any other reseller to ensure that i get the original one and not some crappy copy. For this i had to do a round trip of over 30km but any thing for my darling ! Interestingly, i got the 4L pack in 1500, when i asked storm bhai about this on his thread, he posted: 'Old stock, Old price', which is a very nice approach, and this instinct of the company has made me their permanent customer. Now i recommend everyone to switch to Petromin.
The distributors say that we can drive our cars up to 5 thousand KM on this oil which really makes this product a great value for money (PSO oils die out in 1 thousand !)
Coming to selection of mineral or synthetic. This is purely a matter of personal preference. My stance on this is shaped by what i read in storm bhai's thread, that even the best air filters can filter dust up to 40 microns. As we know (and see, and feel, and sometimes even taste :D) that we have a huge variety of dust types and it is surely below 20 microns. That dust which is less than 20 microns is the one that causes the greatest damage to the engine.
We put synthetic to get more time between oil change, like 10k, and 10k means at least 6-8 months (for an above normal driver) now, what will be the condition of the oil after 6-8 months in our dusty environment ? oil will be good for mileage but will be heavily contaminated with dust, hence causing regular minor damage to the engine.
Even my uncle (who is in USA) tell me that i change my car's oil every 3 months, now if he changes it after 3 months his the almost dust free environment of new york, how often should we change our oil ? if we equate accordingly, if will probably be every month.
Therefore, i recommend mineral oil, which should be original, not fake, and to change oil frequently. I would even recommend not to let your car touch the 5k mark and change the oil at 4.5k (for normal) or 4k or even less (under conditions with heavy dust), just to be safe. This should take care of the inside of our cars well.
