Okay the car is now standing with a very nice bling, infact looks like as it has just received a gloss top coat but....
The buts...
1. What should have been a max 20-25 min session (including windows) TOOK ME an HOUR AND A HALF...
2. DEEP DEEP INSIDE IN A FARAWAY LAND...I can see 3 or 4 SKID marks under certain lit angles
The Mistakes...
I have two MFs right now (should have a truck load by Jan
) one is kept aside for final wipes and one is used to do the wet wipes and detailer wipes (regularly cleaned ofcourse)...
I used the DAB method...Dampened a side with the detailer and dabbed a panel, turned sides sprayed detailer again on clean side and wiped. Turned to an inside side and wiped the moistness off the surface.
Now this worked well for the first one two panels...but after that the Cloth which was pretty damp by now was not drying the surface properly in the last wipe
When I gave the final wipe....OMG...80% of the car still had the wax deposits from the detailer and I had to go into the buffing routine (which took all the effort and time)
The DAB method is pretty cool, I loved it but the DAB and detail should be done with TWO CLOTHS..end of story.
A detailing wipe is done with 8 sides (4 for applying detailer and 4 for drying)...with an added DAB I neeeded total 12 sides and I used 8
(2 sides for DABs, 2 sides for detailer wipe and 4 sides for drying)
So clearly I used dirty sides more than I should have and my drying sides were not as dry as they should have been.
The Dirty sides most probably left those DEEP DEEP skid marks and the not so dry sides left the detailer wax on the paint which turned my final wipe into a nightmare.
My Recommendations for detailer wipe with DAB and Wipe technique:
a. Use two MFs (one for Dabbing and one for detailer wipe and drying) (third one should be used for final wipe if you are in the mood)
b. Do the horizontal surfaces first starting with the Hood
I am sure my next wet wipes (I think it can be tackled with one MF) and detailer wipes (with MFs) will be back to under 20 minutes (maybe even less if I let Mr. D tackle the glasses) because technically if done right DABBING JUST ADDS 5 MINUTES to the whole thing.
THE BEST PARTS:
1. I found the detailer wipe more affective after the DAB...so it works
2. The Car at week's end is standing shiney as ever
3. I was at it non stop including a very rigorous buffing session for an hour and a half and I DID NOT FEEL ANY STRAIN...my body is finally adapting (slowly but surely)
4. I get to do it all over again...TOMORROW IS SHAMPOO AND WAX DAY (and then again on MONDAY which is TOP COAT day)
I am also looking forward to seeing what happens to those skids in tomorrow's coat by coat regime (shampoo, paint clean up and then wax)...let's see if they come off, get disguised or still stare at my face (ofcourse you have to go into really strange positions to make them stare at you)
The swirls I haven't manage to hide till yet but then I haven't brought in the big guns yet...the MAIN EXOTICS are coming in Jan...and some other back up supplies will have to wait for my trip to the land of Sun, fun and Sand later this month (the megs and the turtles)...till then I have to do with what I have and no way is that good enough to hide the swirls...but I am not complaining...just learning
