Warning
[I]The following review is totally based on my belief, opinion and usage. It is not essential that you agree with any part of this review. I don?t belong to Motorola, nor any mobile retailer/seller, neither I am doing marketing for anyone.
I will be not responsible/blamable if you buy this phone on the base of this review and the phone fails to meet your dreams and expecta[/I]tions.
There are two Moto G hardware versions. The old one came with Black M (Motorola logo on the back cover) while the new one comes with silver M. Mine is silver M, Moto G.
Display is 720p IPS LCD with Gorilla Glass 3 is gorgeous, colors are crisp and punchy, screen is very bright, contrast is also good; on 0% brightness I have feeling the display is still bright. Moreover, the front is totally black just like Nexus phones (no logos on the front) somehow it feels a low price Nexus phone. Display of Moto G is close or equal to many flagship phones (believe it or not)
Build quality is miles better than any other brand out there, you have to hold it in your hands to feel it and hey it feels premium. There are no cracks, gaps or creaky sounds anywhere on the phone. I can surely say the build quality is hundred times better then all those Qmobile, Samsung, HTC, LG, Huawei & Chinese phones in $250 range. Surprisingly the quality of Moto G feels even superior to some Samsung and LG high & mid-range phones, specifically which have cheap glossy plastic finish.
Power On paper Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.2GHz CPU might feel slow but hold your horses here, in terms of real life usage the Moto G is freaking fast and I mean it. Before getting this phone I compared the Moto G with S4 and some other high end phones. I was surprise to find Moto G is as snappy as those high end Snapdragon CPU?s in flagship phones. It might lose the battle in benchmarks but not in the real life usage. 1GB ram is plenty of for most daily tasks. Check out some comparison videos on YouTube. In Antutu benchmark Moto G easily defeated the S3 and Nexus 4.
Battery For most time I used my phone with 0% brightness I will check the usage on auto brightness now. After using the phone for few days, Moto G offers me around 5 hours on screen time on 0% brightness, Wi-Fi turned on downloading and installing apps, texting, playing with phone, tweaking settings here and there e.g. and 50% battery left (everything on stock rom). Standby time is also nice. The phone can easily last a day or two on average to normal usage. (I have not tested the phone with dual sims yet)
OS is complete android stock Kit Kat 4.4.2. There are no lags and delays anywhere in the OS. The stock vanilla android is really tasty and fast. There are very few 2 or 3 Motorola apps in the phone. No bloat ware. Further Motorola did a great job optimizing the OS with the phone hardware.
Verdict I honestly feel Moto G is a nexus phone in a low price bracket. The price is surely cheap but by no mean this phone has cheap quality. Few of the boys in my area are big fans of Qmobile, particularly the Noir A900, they were left impressed after getting a hands on with Moto G price and performance. At the time of writing this review, in $250 price range (in Pakistan market) there is no phone out there which is ready to face the challenge of Moto G offering. So if you are looking out for a new phone in PKR 25,000 to 30,000 price bracket which offers value for the money look no where else.
Prices of dual and single sim variant are almost same. I will recommend to get the dual sim variant due to following reasons:
CM also support dual sim, further you can convert the dual sim into single sim with two methods:
1st simply don?t use the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] slot but you would still have the option to use it later in case you change your mind.
2[SUP]nd[/SUP] method is we can flash the single sim rom on dual sim phone and make it single sim Moto G.
Pros
Back curved feels great and comfortable in hand
Dual Microphones
Flashlight is very bright
LED notification light
Speaker is really loud
Vibration is solid
Bang for the buck!
Water repellent coating
Cons
No SD card slot
Non removable battery
Back cover is really hard to remove, first time you will that you might break it
XT1033 Dual Sim variant does not comes with USB cable (Charger included in package)
XT1032 Single Sim variant does not comes with AC Charger (USB cable included in package)
Weight is 143 g slightly heavier for me (I guess I have to start weight lifting)
AC Charger feels too cheap, output is only 500mA however the wire is very long it?s 6 ft. Phone take around 3 hours to charge.
