So after spending a week with One M8, i guess it's time for a little comparison with my previous phone G2.
-Design is everybody's own preference so no point mentioning it. While talking about size, M8 is a bit taller than G2 but still gives only 5.0 screen while G2 offers 5.2. HTC uses extra space to fit those boomsound speakers. Also M8 is little heavy in weight compared to G2 because of metal construction.
-Display on both phones is excellent. Nice sharp displays with vibrant colours. Very high max brightness levels make them very usable in outdoor conditions.
-M8 has Knock On feature just like G2 and it works good. But M8 doesn't offer Knock Off like G2 and i have to reach for power button at top to turn the screen of which is little uncomfortable on such big phone. Also G2 offered the ability to add fourth on screen button to pull down notification bar which i found very handy on such big phones but HTC doesn't offer this and i miss that feature.
-G2 still takes lead in battery life with its 3000mAh battery. G2 used to give 6-7 hours screen on time in mixed usage scenario, while M8 manages more like 5-6 hours under same usage, as it has 2600mAh battery and then there are stereo speakers which must be sucking more power than G2's single speaker.
-Though M8 makes up for it with its excellent speakers. Gaming and youtube watching is great with those speakers and i would happily sacrifice an hour of screen on time for it. I always thought of myself as headphone guy but now i often find myself enjoying music on its speakers.
-On incoming call, its loud and clear ringtone sound makes everyone around you notice it.
In call volume is also quite louder than G2 and you won't have any trouble attending calls in noisy areas.
-Headphone output is also very strong on M8 while G2 is just about average. I tried to watch a movie on G2 while travelling in Daewoo but the ambient noise was too much to understand the dialogues even with full volume. M8 provides more than enough volume in such situations.
-HTC Sense UI is quite a bit faster and smoother than G2's UI. G2 struggles a little here and there for example in opening message threads, dialing a number etc. While M8's UI feels very well polished and does these things instantly.
Both have about same processors and 2GB RAM. And if some of you are interested, G2 usually used around 1.2GB RAM when nothing heavy is running in background, while M8 RAM usage is around 800MB.
-M8 offers microsd card slot which is very useful for those looking for high volume storage in their mobiles. I got 32GB Class 10 microsd card for 2000 rupee.
-G2's GPS wasn't good at all. It was dodgy and unable to get a stable GPS lock. While like my previous HTC phones, M8 gets very good stable lock on GPS and takes only few seconds in doing so.
-Now about Camera
I find camera on M8 better than G2. G2's pics colours seem off oftenly while M8 manages to capture colours as they are. Focus time and capturing speed is also faster on M8.
