there is NO doubt interest is haram, but a more debatable topic is whether leasing things is haram or not. cuz Islam does provide a provision of buying something on intallments, and at a price more than the market price. the best policy to use is "when in doubt, dont". so if u are in doubt whether u should go for a lease or financing, then dont do it. ud be safe that way.

btw, i like the opening line of this thread:

I think the islamic way of leasing a car "Car Ijara" meaning "Car Rentals" is not haram but is somewhat similar to car financing. In Saudia Car leasing is done on this Ijara basis. Car is leased for a certain period of time on rentals on annual rate but payable in monthly installments. when tenure is expired, car's depriciated book valued or market value could be paid to own the car or to let the car stay with the party giving it on lease, decidable at the time of tenure end.

In this Interest is renamed as Rental for that car.
