no matter what ! , inshallah , i will get a hold on this 1 , come on guys lets start thinking out of the box , this much of money is easily spent when u c Mark x , premio , surf , mercedes c class of 2003 and 2004 model , as well as bmw , if one gets a car with its full juice , i think its a better bargain than to drive some 5 years old model.

i totally disagree with my brother who had a test drive ,,i guess car having wonderfull suspension and with 18k body weight can never be so displeasure in driving i guess my friend doesnt have a nag of driving cars,,,even optra 1.6 has a better suspension than locals cars and obviously driving pleasure ..
Secondly i agree with one of my friend tht inspite of buying 5yrs older versions for 2.3/4/5/6/7 lac and so on why not to buy 2010 or 11 zero meter in these prices as local cars are not worth buying u spend such a amount and have nthg in local cars ,,,i am need of a car but seriously dont want to spend this much amount on honda or corolla crap.if anyone can find me velvet red cruze i will def go for it )

1. Korean assembled cars are no comparison to Japan assembled cars , in term of quality , reliability , market reputation , and above all , value for money , in terms of reselling value as the last nail.

2. Every sane person in this world buys a car (within the daily drive , economical ,mid-size , mass production category) , while keeping in mind " THE COST OF OWNERSHIP "
   and if you just pay a close attention to the automotive market. the higher the cost of ownership is of a vehicle , the lower it sells in price( at least at distributor level). while the cost of ownership depends on various factors , including.
   reliability
   insurance premium
   fuel average
   maintenance

so while deciding if its a good value for money one must consider these factors.
Those 5 year old Japanese model still dominate these zero meter cars.
If MODEL was the only preference , the CHINESE CARS would have SWEPT everyone off.

if you buy a civic at 1.9 million , the cost of ownership comes to 2.7 million on average , at average driving , insurance premiums , and service costs. at a 5 year tenure. at general probabilities.

but looking at this particular car , the cost of ownership of this particular vehicle would exceed 4.0 million during a tenure of 5 years. ( provided that the dollar stays constant)

this vehicle would have been overall a better buy if it was priced below the civic , they are offering more features but they do not worth an 8 lac rupee difference.

its almost an amount of a MILLION.

firstly your statement regarding the quality of korean cars being poor is incorrect. This was the case in the early 1990s but now korean automotive industry adheres to strict quality standards just like Japan and US , look at the Optra which is known for its reliability..and one more thing this car was designed by GM and U.S and Korea is not the only place its being produced. The car is now being produced in GM plant in Ohio, US as well.

Another thing the Korean assembled cruze is crash test verified and far superior in safety to local cars. As far as Japanese used cars are concerned, not everything that comes from Japan is pure gold, there have been several cases where accidented Japanese cars (with odometer tampered in almost all cases) end up in Pakistan. Such cars are very risk for passengers. The cruze comes with full warranty, this is something which used Japanese cars cant offer.

I think instead of comparing the cruze to used Japanese cars, if we compare it to zero meter Japanese cars that is more logical. Even a zero meter 2010 1000cc vitz (if imported) would cost almost 15 lakhs under the current duty structure. Chances are if anyone tried to Import a zero meter 1.8 car from Japan it would make it cost even more than the the price of Cruze.

Grade 4-5 used cars cost a lot even in Japan and its not profitable to import good condition Japanese cars and sell them here in Pakistan. So finding an excellent condition Japanese used car in a decent price is no easy task!

^ am sorry if i offended you or any one else , but i was solely targeting the ground of financial , and for that we have to look emotionless-ly to the stats. and stats are different.

Korean cars all over the world do face reliability issues. higher cost of ownership. higher service costs , and higher premiums, stats say it . which i do not make am sorry , and if not surprisingly , USDM cars are not any better than Korean cars.

JAPANESE , and GERMAN cars file least claims
while Chinese top the list , Koreans come second , and USDM stay on the third place.
resulting in higher premiums.

i have no price idea of a 2010 Vitz so i cannot blindly quote its price.

look you have to understand one thing ,

If u have an assembly line , u receive a KNOCKDOWN.
by paying almost 35% of duties if the car was imported non assembled.

if they start importing civic as a whole it would reach 3 million in no time.now tell me being a consumer which is a better buy for you ? a better investment ? in terms of your hard earned money, i would surely not pay an 8 lac rupee difference to mr. zordari.
under the same engine capacity , HIGH cost of ownerships , and low market value.

our options our limited , but still , a local assembled car such as a civic is a better buy in an overall comparison, on strictly financial grounds.

for your example , lets say the government increases the duty on 1000 cc engine capacity , now a vitz costs 2.0 million. civic stays at 1.9 mil , and this car at 2.7 , now what would you do ?

DUTY STRUCTURE IS MADE THIS WAY , THAT YOU MAY NOT BUY IMPORTED CARS , and even if some one does , he pays a ridiculous amount for his folly.

now if some one buys an imported car, he is making a loss.

what else do you need to understand, to realize , that this car is a loss for you.in every terms.

You have put the my point in a really logical way! I made this comment on the first page and a few people disagreed with what i had to say. The Cruze will only be an attractive option for a really die-hard car fan with lots of spare cash.

As an example my brother bought a 2004 Hyundai Excel last year when he was in the US. He even curses it today. Said it was no match for a 2004 Corolla or 2004 Civic. The Koreans have a lot to learn about making cars. A great paint job or shape does not bring the driving dynamic equal to a Civic or Corolla.

The people speaking before me are just raving about the shape and colour but in my opinion if the Corolla or Civic are in the top 10 sellers in the world there must be something in these cars that people are buying them. Why is the Cruze not in the top 10? Please answer someone.

if u compare prices in respect of yen or dollars u will get the answers if u buy cruze for $18kto 20k and give duties u will come to the same price level,,,
if u import civic or corolla u will be having it in pakistan by paying the same amount of cruze the diff is these cars r assemble here on the other hand cruze and japanese cars are not thts why even vitz 2008 -2010 vary from 12k - to 15k now,,,, i guess in pak we will be getting mehran for 8k and civic for 23K soon ....so value for money depends on one pocket if one can buy and have option then its not a bad option at all

thnx for support brother , this is exactly my point , i have worked at insurance corporations and i have been keenly noticing how these people judge cars for their premiums , everything is considered, koreans do have a long way to go. but some people are impossible to make understand.

here is a law in Pakistan ,giving incentive to the local manufacturers to support local industry, and transfer of technology ( although not happening)
which states that if some company owns a assembly line , it receives a knock down ( waive off of 65%) of the duty amount , which would be liable , if the car was imported here as pre-assembled.

then get this ,
if u are the owner of HONDA or any one else , and if you import CIVIC as a whole as pre-assembled. it would cost you easily around 2.8 million plus.

BUT

if u import it in parts , then assemble it here , then you get 65% discount over the duty amount that has to be paid.

lets say the civic costs 15k brand new , ( this is the base model price)
you import it , pay 111% duty+ 1000 USD freight n etc. , so roughly it would cost the 33,000 USD mark.

on in other words , 28 ,00,000 + the amount goes.

THIS IS THE SAME CAR THAT HONDA IS PROVIDING YOU AT THE PRICE OF 17 LAC.

want to know how ? by achieving the discount of 65% on duty , by having their own assembly line.

so the same car honda is providing you for 17 lacs , if you would import it yourself , it would cost you 2.8 million plus. just because you do not own an assembly line.

Car sales in China feb 2010 as posted by another pakwheels members. Certainly the Cruze is no junk car as many people tend to believe. The days of Hyundai Excel and Daewoo racer are over, the Koreans are much more improved now. The Chinese are fast catching up as well. Organizations like EURONCAP are not foolish to give to give 4-5 star safety ratings to Korean cars for no reason.

Bro I was not offended by your post, its good to exchange different views. I was trying to give my point of view which which is very valid but which u are really aren't understanding (regarding used Japanese cars and crash test verification of cruze for example). I never said this car was cheap my point was for the extra amount you pay you do get something other cars cant offer. And for the price of a new vitz you can confirm the amount by visiting any importer.

i agree with you man, Korean cars are as superior as Japanese, if you search the internet you will find that Korean automobile industries are the fastest growing industries in the world, why people buying them and they growing so fast then even Toyotas and Hondas??? one of Korean auto maker ad there was a statement that this is the fastest growing automaker in the world, i think they made this claim before they confirmed. they are winning worldwide awards, prizes and gaining 5/5 crash tests ratings as of Japanese cars. people like them in the US, Australia and all over the world.

surely i agree and understand your concern , as a layman and a normal consumer this thinking is absolutely normal , yes they are getting good crash test results , they defnitely are the fasting growing automakers ( so are the Chinese ) ,

but safety is just ONE part of the game ,
all my posts and long explaining, are just based on on and only motive.
and that is , " Value for money "

this same 2.7 million rupee car would have costed you just 1.6 million rupees , with all these features , ONLY , if Chevrolet had an assembly line here in Pakistan.

now this 11 lac rupee difference is not there because the car is made of gold or has some exceptional features , but infact , its due to the government policies and the duty structure.

" any thing which is INFLATED by policies like this , does not VALUE the amount you pay for it " this is exactly why every sane businessman/person imports used cars , and not new.

this car costs , just 13k at distributor levels , and when it goes inline with its local competition , with the same taxes and duty as they pay , you would have had it starting at 16 lac rupees only and this is the value of this car in the market we have. rest is all 70% more duty and huge dealer profits.
( for the reason they dont want to invest in your country , and your country doesnt want you to buy from them)
