umm - dettol?....

its a bunch of some disinfectants, isopropanol, pine oil, soap etc.. You need an acid to cut that rusty scale off the metal bits. When a mechanic suggests you to use such items - do it first in a controlled fashion, e.g. find a rusty piece of metal and dip in in dettol+water.

It will be germ free for sure but the rust will be like the land mafia and wont move. You need big muscle to move the mafia (rust).

Be careful when derusting a system - I once derusted a system only to find 26 holes in the radiator, welch plugs, water pump etc of a cultus.

The mechanic RA actually said to the owner that pouring the water from a certain well near his shop was the best coolant - this water was severely salty btw.

Damn....Did I just read 26 holes in the Radiator....scares me literally.... Won't do any such stupid thing in future for sure......ll try and De-Rust the system just like You suggested... Thanks for Your Reply :)....

it was good that the holes were discovered. They were plugged up with rust only and was a disaster waiting to happen. New radiator, new pipes, new thermostat, new intake manifold (rusted), new welch plugs in head, new water pump, new thermostat and coolant and the owner never faced any problems after that.

This would have never happened if coolant was used in the system like the factory suggests. But the Hz Ustaad mechanic says "no to coolant" and even drains it away.

But I never let them Drain my Car's coolant and that's the only good I guess I have done after reading your comment....On coming weekend Insha Allah I ll drain the Radiator and try and De-rust it and then fill it with coolant again....Can You please tell me again how much coolant to use in the Radiator...Its used in Proportions with water right ? or thats another i'd say CHUSS by ustads

M just worried about any leakages that may pop out...do You suggest getting the Radiator Opened and cleaned ? Though the car isn't that old but I don't wanna take any risks.....

Your mechanics are surely smoking the good stuff.

coolant has these jobs

1 keep the system rust free
2 raise the boiling point of the liquid
3 lower the freezing point of the liquid.

It also takes care of any cavitation problems in the water body (water pump) Its actually an alcohol - dont drink it though, its highly poisonous. I use it to kill rats.

Always use it at recommended dilution, usually a max of 50% is recommended, always cut it with distilled water to prevent other salts etc from doing their stupid act of sticking to stuff.

Dont open up the radiator, if you have leaks you will find them in both cases. So keep it simple - do a citric acid flush, its far more gentle than the sulphuric acid the radiator guys use.

Those are concentrated formulas. Just buy Nasa and fill it according to the mark. It is pre-diluted and cost around 200rs/litre

I dont know about it now but it used to be OK, it was an oldschool formula which required change every year.

Right bro.....but I ll only know if there are any leaks at all when I ll actually flush the Radiator and than re-fill the system all over again

yep - the bigger problem is the "stigma" attached to the term and also that the average car user wants the best at the cheapest rate. Educated or qualified mechanics are not low cost.
