City 2004 gear grinding

I am having horrible grinding noise in my honda city 2004 manual... Even it gives this grinding noise in neutral when car is stationary... This grinding noise increases as per the rpm increases but vanishes in 4th and 5th gears.

This noise vanishes when I press down the clutch..

Strange thing is that in 2nd gear, this noise disappears after 2.5k+ rpm, but starts again when I shift 3rd gear..

From last 500kms its occasionally giving squeaking noise in 1st and 2nd gears..

Gearoil is recently changed to genuine honda MTF but no improvement..

Clutch n pressure plate may be abit weak, but I don't think it is culprit..

Note that the ride is smooth and there is no gear/clutch slippage and gear shifting is also very smooth..

Any expert advise about this issue?

Its your clutch bearing,replace it asap otherwise it will damage your clutch

You mean to say thrust bearing?

Yes he means thrust bearing. Was the transmission removed from the engine before this sound started to come? Because the thrust bearing should be replaced whenever tranny is decoupled and clutch is removed. That is my two cents, hope more experienced people come and help you out

I don't think transmission was ever removed from this car..

If it was thrust bearing, it wouldn't make noise when clutch isn't pressed...My case is different... the grinding noise comes even the car is idle and clutch is not pressed.

There is something loose in bell housing or counter shaft bearing might be culprit.

The round shape matting surface of gear box which is connected to engine block called bell housing.
