Ok so it's an old thread but I am going bonkers on some of the numbers given here...reason...I myself am (I guess 'was') a 'self proclaimed' hypermiler but the numbers here are simply mind boggling ... 25.3 km/l means 60 m/g which is Honda insight, Toyota Prius territory and getting that from a 1.5 Auto 4 cylinder city is just....well... Let me just tell u something...some of my hypermiler mates in USA drive only in their shorts or undies (to save weight) to achieve such figures and that too with hybrid cars..a Honda CG-125 or Suzuki GS-150 gives around 35-40 so people achieving 25/l with a manual city are either pro hypermilers or simply .........and by pro I mean they probably get paid from manufacturers and dealers to do these runs and then promote their numbers...
I have a Honda Civic 2004 Exi with manual transmission and the best I have reached is close to 17.7 kms/L and that too while driving at 75-80 km/hr for 4 straight hours on motorway without AC..did some FAS stints as well. Changed gears below 1500 rpm and built up my speed in several mins.. unfortunately atlas Honda wouldn't pay me a " dumari "
In my humble view (which of course is not binding on anyone), the calibration of the systems that calculate fuel consumption in present day cars is maybe tweeked by their manufacturers in a way to please the drivers and deliver a sense of achievement perhaps...but that's just a thought..
And last but not the least... If any of you pro-hypermilers thinking about gunning for me because of my unwarranted lack of conviction regarding some of the numbers posted here... I mean you no harm..live long and prosper \// ..
happy hipermiling!!
