speaking of "unique cars" I owned a VW Golf - it was a wonderful car for me - 20-22 km/lit come rain, shine, hell - no problems at all. 50 litres diesel for 1000 kms every single time.
there was a little problem with owning it - its spare parts are "naa paed" in Pakistan - I had a bit of storage filled with its parts, and would buy body parts from around Pakistan, it was a very simple mechanical car but even being so so so simple - a general mechanic in Pakistan cannot set its timing belt as there are no marks on the engine - it requires a tool to lock the camshaft. - One mistake can ruin the entire engine.
even installing the clutch plate was a bit weird - axles were like benz - lobro joints inboard and regular rzeppa joints outboard, one mistake with the lobro and your joint is toast.
My point is that dont get yourself into a situation where you cannot get yourself out of without losing money - problems like HVAC module in the accord CL7 or automatic transmission rebuild are extremely expensive if you want to have 100% reliable and correct repairs.
