Between about the engine
My friend own eg swapped with d16y4 (non vtec one) matted with s40 gearbox....really awesome to drive with great mileage due to long gear ratio.
D16w9 is also great. Dual vtec gives better mileage then single.
Now rate of every engine is same either it's d17,d15, or d16 that is 75~80k complete with gearbox and uncut wiring.

Thanks for hooking me up with new people mate your input is highly appreciated but i am looking for performance with fuel consumptions around 9-10km/l with ac among these engines and i have heard single vtec is better than dual vtec in terms of performance

Single vtec is more fun to drive.....
Between VTEC is not made for mileage

It doesn't depend solely on single or double vtec, an example is the 130 horses from a dual vtec d16y8 , that came as stock in pkdm civic , it makes that from 1.6 litres, and brand new grande makes 132 from 1.8 litre, even the power band is similar

Look after all the discussion I've deduced that:
1) price is almost same for all of these engines
2) power figures are also similar
3) no real hard reason to prefer one over the other unless you want to boost the engine,
So I conclude that you should take your mechanic and a person who knows what he is looking at and you should check which one is the cleanest piece available, even a clean d17a2 is great , check the plugs and Injectors to see for wear if worn then engine has plenty of miles on it , if the covers and rubbers are worn out from weathering effect like rubber hardening due to cold weather but no significant wear inside , then your in luck as the engine probably is from a write off accident car and doesn't have too much miles on it, also be sure to do a compression test

but 2zrfe got 170nm of torque at 4.4k rpm

bhai torque rating of vtec and non vtec engines are different
vtec always have less torque which also lays at higher rpms....which greatly effects the mileage

Well hey any vtec engine will give you 10km/l , all day long as long as it's d series, that's the point, op has mentioned multiple times that he wants performance and a lil bit of economy so even the famous three stage VTEC motors are great, anyways he'll probably update once he finds out which options are available and at what price , right @xipingo?

Vtec will give you 10km/l only with light foot that's my point.....otherwise bhol jao.

Bhai , the three stage VTEC engines are designed towards economy more and also a bit of performance like the 2 stage ones (somewhere in the middle), the single vtecs are power orientated (but not so much in every series) it depends mostly on the engine family, like look at all b series engines b16b etc, those are proper power favoring motors, k series and r series are also fuel hungry , d series are way better in this regard, it is also one of the only series to come with vtec-e which is super econo focused, alot of healthy d 16's will give better mileage than a brand new r18 civic x

It depends upon for what purpose engine is being designed
Dual vtec has 3 stages one economy 2nd standard 3rd powder.
Now of you study there power graphs all the torque lays after standard.
Like at low rpms you engine is not making enough torque to reach at a certain speed you want....you shift the gear at same rpm torque further decrease so at last you have to increase the rpm....getting my point?
Now don't blame B series engines many of them are not made for mileage.
Just take an example of Eg with R18....r18 in eg will give you better mileage then in Fd civic because Eg weight less then fd and also performs great
Mileage and performance both depends upon Power to weight ratio.

Oh no why would I blame b series all I said is about the fuel economy , b16b and 2zzge are my favorite motors , they are very similar and fully performance orientated, I mean nobody expects 35mpg from a 2jz gte or a k24 or a Barra , I was just saying that the d series is one of the most economical vtec motor family, I guess second only to the l series

And I reiterate, three stage is only suitable because with a light foot you can get 10kmpl all day, and it also has that sporty feeling when you are feeling like a redneck sometime , but that's just me​ I have a build planned but looking for a 6gen, and still in the saving up phase, I may or may not boost it (definitely will) , I was thinking of trying what a kei turbo would do , stock internals though
