If you are buying it because you think you can have a sedan in a small hatchback's budget then No. It will cost you a lot more to run considering its now a 20 year old car. Many have their engines swapped and are full of all kinds of jugaars.

If you are looking for a sedan and can find one that is not abused then its a pretty decent car.

Fuel mileage for Manual variants is good.

I would look for a good condition City in this budget.

Do not buy the Civic 8th gen(reborn) in this budget. You will get an abused car which will turn into a nightmare.

One of my daily drivers is a 2003. If you are mechanically and DIY inclined, this car is great value for money.

I recently bought a Reborn 2011 for a friend. The body is fine, but it has mechanical and electric problems that we are working on. Some problems include O2 sensor, EGR, steering rack, bushings, and at least one axle. It actually feels less smooth than my 2003 in it's current condition.

If you are relying on mechanics without any DIY knowledge, avoid these cars. Also, be prepared to set aside at least 15000 a month for repairs and maintenance. Save it, and use it when required.

If you are a beginner a neat wagonr is the safest bet.
With old jdms youll have to rely on scrapyards for parts and mind you they are not cheap.

Old Corollas are similar. They have simpler rear suspension; the automatic transmission is much more robust. However, almost every old Corolla I have seen has been abused beyond reason, since people have the misconception that these cars are invincible. Also, they are way too overpriced for their age, precisely because of the "gadi mazboot hai" myth.

Also, most Corollas require original, pricey shims for their tappet settings. Since people are cheap, get the tappets "adjusted" by grinding the valve stems down, damaging the engine in the long run.

Personally, I would only consider 1.8 Corollas; stay away from 1.3 and 1.6. People with a 1.8 tend to take care of them slightly better.
