My tensioner was bad as well, sounded awful during start-up and then later on the noise became constant even in a warm engine.
replaced it with a genuine one including waterbody for 17k (Karachi).
I got mine fixed from Karachi
This is a common problem in this engine and the tensioner bearing goes bad after a while. in my case what was interesting was that the waterbody housing was also deteriorated and the pulleys werent in a straight line
I am facing a similar issue on civic 9th gen. Should i go for tensioner replacement? I hear two sounds. 1 krrrr sound on cold startup and then continuous Rattling sound from engine. The sounds becomes normal when engine continues to run for 10 - 15 mins.
also check the valve lashes (tappets).
I got my tensioner checked. The mechanic also suggested that the issue is with tappets.
Is it solved now? What was the actual problem? Please tell what you did.
