You need Honda Z-1 ATF, or DW-1 ATF, which supercedes it. No other ATF is acceptable.
Especially not DEXRON III types that are commonly available, such as Caltex Texamatic 1888.
ATF Capacity for 8th Gen Civic:
2.4 L (2.5 US qt, 2.1 Imp qt) at change
5.9 L (6.2 US qt, 5.2 Imp qt) at overhaul
My 8th Gen Civic has 190,000km and has never had an ATF change. It doesn't slip and there's nothing wrong with it, except that it takes a few seconds to go into D after a cold start in the morning. @Xulfiqar, would you recommend changing it?
My plan is to replace the 2.4 liter change quantity at a time, over the course of a few months, at operating temp. My serial dilution math is rusty, so I don't know exactly how many times, but I'm thinking three changes.
