Civic X Rust problem.
Honda Atlas, It's a RUST & TRUST issue.
Still NO vaccine for Honda Atlas poor quality Virus.
IF you are owner of 10th Generation Civic, you MUST read this. If you are in market for a used Civic X, even then you must read it.
The current 10th generation Honda Civic is globally the most awarded model in the economy / compact car segment. It made a new benchmark and even after almost 4 year into production, still people's first choice.
When it comes to Pakistan, the 10th generation Civic is one of the most cursed model of the Honda Pakistan history. Since its arrival , it had issues with fit and finish, built quality. Not only that, extensive reports of electrical and mechanical problems one after another. Issue with the Turbo varaint was also well documented and we discussed it numerous times.
Although the quality of visible parts / fit and finish has improved somewhat as of interior, there are still reports of pathetic quality and randomly owners keep on reporting about it. The steering wheel assembly issue has been a nightmare for many owners.
Almost all current Civic X owners , who bought a new or used car, their vehicle has not yet completed the 4th year on the road. Now, a new type of problem has been experienced by many 10th generation Civic owners and wide spread.
Due to some unexplained reason, the interior portion of the doors have started showing body rust and resulting in perforation. So, much and so that many owners have to actually repair their vehicles and get it repainted. Some owners even went and reported the problem to dealers but there is no solution and help whatsoever.
It looks like there is some serious problem going on at assembly line and Honda Atlas is just compromising on the quality control. Normally when all body panels are fixed together and skeleton is made [ without engine and interior / exterior fittings] , it's a plain steel body and it's called Body In White.
The skeleton goes through the corrosion inhibition coating/ process before the paint process. This is very important because without this process or improper and inadequate treatment can cause rusting of the body panels. If we are seeing multiple cars with the same issue at the same location, it means something is wrong with a certain process at Manga-Mandi.
Globally in overseas market, if a certain problem is reported by multiple car owners, the car companies by law need to investigate, fix the cause of the issue so that it's not reported and repeated again and all those vehciles which already left the assembly line are Recalled and fixed. This is important because, it's not only matter of reducing losses and liabilities but required for high level of customer services and maintaining their brand value.
In overseas markets, all car makers including Honda has a warranty language not only for the paint but also for the corrosion/ rust. In USA & Canada, Honda offer a 5 year and unlimited miles rust warranty. In Australia it is 7 years unlimited miles while in UK, it is 12 years.
When it comes to Pakistan it seems like there is nothing like that in the warranty booklet and car makers including Honda Atlas are mum about it. Even the car buyers dont know about it that, there is something called a rust/ corrosion warranty.
I am presenting very few examples of actual rust issues reported to me by PKDM Civic X owners. All these owners are not related to each other and lives in different parts of the country. Additionally, the problem is not related to any specific body color, the rust has been seen on multiple exterior color types. I am sure there are many more such cases and if you are owner of Honda Civic, I highly recommend that you must keep an eye on the problem area as can be seen in the video clip attached.
If you are planning to buy a used Civic , you must also inspect these areas of the vehicle you are about to buy. If we are seeing these rust issues on these areas , I am very much concerned about other body panels not visible to eye directly.
Its very important for Honda Atlas to investigate this matter and resolve it. Corrosion and perforation just after 3 years of the life of the car is not something normal. I personally think that all car assemblers in Pakistan MUST include the rust warranty language in the warranty booklet and it should be minimum 5 years and unlimited mileage like rest of the world. It's very disappointing that price of these cars increases every few months but the built quality is going down the drain and towards low , year after year.
If you are Civic X owner and have experienced the same issue, please share in comments. If you have started observing the rust , Do share.
